The Wall Street Journal just tested whether an AI clone could replace a real person for 24 hours.
The results? Impressive at times, but also a little unsettling. The AI voice just about fooled an interviewee at Snap, or at least it was a pass. The video avatar for TikTok looked convincing enough for a moment, but not for long. People definitely could tell because of the lack of facial emotion and hand movements.
Here’s the takeaway for me: technology can mimic, but it cannot replace human connection.
Associations and corporations do not need “content” that feels artificial. They need authentic stories told by real people. Members, leaders, and sponsors sharing their experiences on camera create trust in a way no machine can.
At Pond Ripple Media, LLC, that is what we focus on. Video that captures the humanity behind the mission and builds relationships that last.
Because people can still spot fake a mile away. And they crave the real thing. 🌊

24-Hour Challenge: Can My AI Voice and Video Clone Replace Me? New AI voice and video tools can look and sound like you. But can they fool your family—or bank? WSJ’s Joanna Stern replaced herself with her AI twin for the day to find out. Photo illustration: Elena Scotti
Hey friends 👋
It’s been a minute since we’ve posted here! Most of our updates have been living on LinkedIn, but we realized we’ve been missing out on connecting with you here on Facebook too.
Good news: we’re going to do better. You’ll start seeing more stories, behind-the-scenes moments, and examples of how we help associations, corporations, and nonprofits bring their stories to life through video.
Excited to reconnect with you here, and thank you for being part of the ripple 🌊

Been a fantastic week networking and getting to know some amazingly fun people at American Society of Association Executives (ASAE). But I’m ready to let my voice calm down (convention voice now for 3 weeks!) and see my wonderful partner Peter Fudacz

Headed to ASAE. You know it’s a work flight when I have these bad boys. Looking forward to seeing lots of industry friends. First working trip with gear from our new home. It was different this morning.

On day 3 of being in Palm Springs for the NGLCC - The National LGBT Chamber of Commerce annual conference. Love this space and feel so accepted at this conference. Already hung out with several great peeps.

The past two days have been pretty rough. We finalized the closing of my office here in Chicago. Shed a few tears as it was my work home for the past 5 years. Here’s to the future in Florida.

When the interviewee of a client tells you that you made them comfortable before the questions begin, you might be doing a good job. And I wasn’t even conducting the interviews. Can’t say that “love what you do and you won’t work a day in your life” cause that’s simply not true. I worked my butt off but it was worth it. Especially when your client’s boss hugs you before you depart to say thanks and he loves your work.

When your husband asks if you can do what you do for a living to help him at what he does for a living. Even broke out the teleprompter and green screening it in my office. Pond Ripple Media, LLC Peter Fudacz

This was a little different booth setup for Association Forum's Holiday Showcase. We partnered with AV Chicago and had a blast. Here's our fearless leader dressed as Ralphie from A Christmas Story. And we'll be giving away that leg to a lucky attendee that registered at our booth. We also gave away goody bags with a leg lamp ornament. It was a fun day!
