Water quality monitoring looks different across aquaculture, lake management, and university research, but the need for reliable, easy-to-access data never changes.

Teams at Cherrystone Aqua-Farms, University of Colorado Boulder, LakeTech, and ROSS Syndicate at CSU rely on In-Situ solutions to make it simple. With cost-effective sensors, real-time data, and a mobile app and web interface, access to the data they need is always within reach.

Cherrystone Aqua-Farms has been cultivating shellfish on Virginia's Eastern Shore since 1895.

A recent USDA NIFA grant gave their team the opportunity to purchase water quality equipment for continuous monitoring of the conditions in their farms. They chose to go with the In-Situ Aqua TROLL 600 because of its intuitive setup, straightforward sensors, and hands-on support from the In-Situ team, making it easy to get their monitoring network up and running from day one.

Deployed across six growing sites, the Aqua TROLL 600 continuously monitors temperature, salinity, pH, dissolved oxygen, and chlorophyll-a in real time through VuLink and HydroVu.

The goal? Build a baseline that connects water quality to production changes, so they can make smarter decisions, optimize growth, and protect their harvest for generations to come.

Blue-green algae (BGA) blooms are increasing in frequency worldwide, and they're harder to manage than most people realize.

Despite its name, BGA isn't actually algae. It's cyanobacteria, one of the oldest life forms on Earth. When blooms form, they can pose serious risks to ecosystems, drinking water, and public health. Yet monitoring them effectively requires selecting the approach that's best suited for the particular situation.

That's why we built a comprehensive BGA guide, covering everything from what causes blue-green algae blooms to detection methods, field challenges, and sensor solutions.

Coastal aquaculture demands continuous, reliable water quality data and the RDO Trio delivers it.

Coastal saltwater environments present unique challenges. Fluctuating salinity and fouling can compromise sensor accuracy over time.

The RDO Trio is designed to stay accurate through it — built-in salinity compensation, continuous dissolved oxygen monitoring, and an optional integrated wiper to keep the sensor clean between maintenance visits.

The result is consistent data across the full deployment.

We will be at World Aquaculture Singapore 2026, June 3–5 in Singapore.

We'll be showcasing the RDO Trio — optical dissolved oxygen monitoring with salinity
compensation designed for less maintenance and more reliable data in aquaculture
environments.
