There are grown adults now who don't remember that morning. They only know what the rest of us tell them.
So we say it simply. Ordinary people went to work. Firefighters and police officers went up the stairs while everyone else came down. The next morning, neighbors who had never spoken knocked on each other's doors.
Today we honor the people who were lost, the families who still feel it, and the ones who came to help.
Twenty‑five years later, we remember.

Legacy isn't a word for the end of your career. You are building one right now, in the most ordinary hours of your week.
It shows up when you give a client the honest answer instead of the easy one.
It shows up when you find patience on a day you had none left to give.
And it lives on in the person who watched you carry a hard season and decided they could carry theirs.
You will rarely see the moment it lands. It lands anyway.
Thank you, Dolly. You made a lot of people believe they were capable of more. 💛

Between building a career, raising a family, going back to school, and taking care of everyone else on the list, we tend to put ourselves last. The fix isn't a life overhaul. It's one small thing you actually repeat.
Pick one and repeat:
• Drink more water
• Add a fruit or vegetable to every meal
• Set a real bedtime and keep it
• Join a walking, yoga, or aerobics class
• Try five minutes of quiet
Small change now, different person by winter.

Kids need balance too.
We think of it as something for the working adults in the house. But look at what a student's week actually holds. Six hours of school, homework, practice, a group project with someone who never answers the text. That's a full load, and they're carrying it without the tools most of us took years to figure out.
They learn some of it by watching. If the laptop is open at the dinner table, that's the lesson.
The rest we can teach.
Sit down together this week and pick one thing to protect. Saturday morning before anything else claims it. A half hour after school that belongs to them and nothing else. Then hold it, especially the week it's inconvenient, because that's the week the lesson actually lands.
Rest isn't the reward for finishing. It's part of how the week is supposed to work.
What's one thing your student is protecting this year?

Every big thing starts small.
A new school year works the same way. The backpack. The sharpened pencils. The nervous walk into a room full of strangers. None of it looks like world changing. All of it is.
Here's to everyone starting something small this month.

There is a quiet pressure to move faster. To have more figured out by now. To be further along than you are.
But nothing worth growing grows on demand. An elm spends years building roots before anyone notices its height, and not one of those years is wasted.
You are allowed to take the time it takes.
What is something in your life that is growing slowly, and worth it?

One of the quiet gifts of living here is that stillness is always close by.
An afternoon on the patio. A little salt in the air. Nowhere in particular to be. It does not take a whole vacation to feel like yourself again. Sometimes it just takes an hour with your feet up and the ocean doing the talking.
Start your weekend with intention.
