I got a rush order powdercoat job the other day. The end user needed the parts by Wednesday. I was originally supposed to get the parts on Monday. Monday came and went. I was then supposed receive the parts on Tuesday by 3pm.

I was ready to go. Oven hot. Colors out. Gun loaded.

At 6pm I was about to call it a day, but the parts showed up at 5:58pm. I was unhappy to learn more about the job, ie powdercoating 48 pieces of 3/8 hardware, and 36 other pieces. 3 coats. Chrome, candy, and clear.
I flew through it. Admittedly, it wasn't perfect, but I was done by 11pm.

I delivered the parts on Wednesday morning, 14 hours after receiving them. The customer checked them out, paid up, said thanks for bailing him out and I went to my day job.
A few hours later I got a message saying they're not good enough. The gold candy was "too inconsistent". I was asked if I could fix them. At this point I felt like I had been yanked around enough, so I decided to issue a refund instead.

At the end of the day, the result of poor planning, poor design, poor scheduling left me defeated. None of the planning, design, or scheduling was in my control.

Everybody in this scenario got paid for their work but me.

I've moved on, but I'm curious. What would you have done in that situation?

Needless to say I will not be working with that weld shop, machine shop, or brewery in the future.

I had the opportunity to make some movie props last week! I think that's all I can say because I may be sharing too much already.
These were all NEXT DAY TURNAROUND. ordered on SUNDAY and shipped on MONDAY.
These are all aluminum plates cut to size, painted and then the decals were applied.
It will be fun to look for them in the movie along with my name in the credits!
