Artists ask me about Spotify all the time.

Listen, I watch it. I do NOT put money into anything related to Spotify. I did when I started. I tried the Marquee, Discovery and all the things. It wasn’t worth the money. And with Google Ads, even many of those views were removed because I didn’t target primary countries. They are too expensive and you don’t need them early on. They don’t like when you think, my loves.

After 3 months, I redirected all my attention toward my own website and then Youtube and Apple, all of which are much more stable… and YouTube ridiculously larger. You can get where you want to go without Spotify. I check it 3 times per week, run it through my free contest, and list it here and there, but trying to push my audience to them? I wholly refuse. If you are over there, link up, but I don’t intend to send you there. Hell, I’m not even a subscriber. I pay for Pandora. 😂

NEVER put your money into an unstable asset, where you are exposed to wrongdoing you cannot even identify and get punished for it. I have 3 companies currently negotiating with us about my music, have brand deals loaded and more stuff coming down the pipeline WITHOUT Spotify. If you had your whole catalog removed, then you understand how dangerous it is to put all your eggs in 1 basket. They might get me one of these days, but what I’m building is business, not streams. F-k em! Stop crying and pivot!

I let the stats guide me in music just like I have let it guide me in all other areas of marketing my businesses. It works. Chasing likes, comments, compliments, it’s cute but it won’t pay you. A lot of people will applaud you and not spend a dime. And remember, an artist is not entitled to a purchase or download. Each one should be appreciated. HOWEVER, when you follow the stats, you’ll find your wealth, success and more. The stats show you who your people are who WANT to download, stream and purchase.
