🚨 Cruisers sailing to Mexico, this is why there’s confusion about v**es
If your cruise stops in Cozumel, Costa Maya, or Progreso, here’s the simplest way to understand Mexico’s v**e rules.
Both of these things can be true at the same time:
✅ Personal possession inside Mexico may be allowed
Once you’re already in the country, simply having a v**e for personal use is generally tolerated and not the main target of enforcement.
⚠️ Entering Mexico is the issue
Mexico bans the importation and sale of v**es and e-cigarettes.
Importation means bringing it into the country — even one device for personal use.
🚢 Why this matters for cruisers
When you walk off a cruise ship, you are technically entering Mexico through customs, even if you’re only ashore for a few hours. That’s where devices can be confiscated and fines have been reported.
🛒 Can you buy them there?
No. Legal sales are banned nationwide. If you see them for sale, it’s informal and not legal.
Bottom line:
✔ Allowed on the ship (per cruise line rules)
⚠ Risky to take ashore in Mexico
❌ Not legally sold in Mexico
👉 To avoid issues, the safest option is to leave it on the ship or leave it at home.
