Now 18 years and up.
You don’t need it to carry in SC, but as an 18 year old… you need to know the laws, and most importantly how to stay safe!
Also, every state does NOT recognize SC laws, and it makes purchasing easier.

Remember, even though South Carolina is open carry, all states are not. If you plan to travel, it’s good to have your CWP. It also makes it easier to purchase and I personally think everyone should go through the course just to know the laws and safety training that are included.

Although a CWP is no longer required in SC, you should remember that not only do you need it to travel, and it makes it easier to purchase…but the training and knowledge of the laws are extremely important for your safety and the safety of others.

Please keep in mind that the new law does not allow you to openly carry outside of SC, and more importantly you want the necessary training to keep you and your loved ones safe.

I know a lot of you are choosing not to get your CWP anymore because of the new law. However, there are 3 things to remember about this new law:

1. You still have to have your CWP to carry across state lines

2. Every state does not have open carry or the law to carry at 18 years of age

3. The handgun buying process is so much easier and faster if you have your CWP

I for one believe that even if you choose not to get your CWP, you still need some type of gun safety and usage training before you just get out here and carry. Protect yourself.

In the words of Roger Gregory, “You don’t have to get your CWP/training from me, but please get it from somebody.”
