๐Ÿšจ Rescue Intake is Getting Out of Hand... ๐Ÿšจ

We found this little guy trying to get seen in our meet and greet area.

After a thorough examination by our highly trained rescue staff, we have determined:

โŒ Not a kitten
โŒ Not a puppy
โŒ Not even remotely friendly

โœ… 100% Pocket Gopher

We love helping animals, but we have to admit this one had us scratching our heads for a minute. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Don't worryโ€”this little guy was safely released back where he belongs and is probably already hard at work redesigning someone's yard.

On a serious note, while we always do our best to help animals in need, please remember that abandoning animals at our gate is dangerous for them and creates challenges for our already full rescue.

Transport Update! Thanks to your incredible support, we are still able to transport 8 lucky dogs this weekend, giving them the opportunity to travel to areas where they have a much better chance of finding loving forever homes. We couldn't be more grateful for everyone who helps make our Ticket to Ride program possible!

We've already received a few airline-approved kennels for our passengers, and we sincerely appreciate every donation. However, we still need a few more before all of these pups are ready for takeoff.

If you'd like to help send one of these deserving dogs on their journey, please check out our Transport Wish List. At this time, we are especially in need of medium-sized airline carriers.

Every kennel donated helps a shelter pet get one step closer to a second chance. They fly out June 27thโค๏ธ๐Ÿพ

JOIN OUR COMFORT CREW!!

For many shelter pets, July 3rd and July 4th are some of the scariest nights of the year.

While we celebrate with fireworks, many of our dogs and cats are frightened by the loud noises that often accompany the holiday. We're looking for compassionate volunteers to simply spend time with them, helping them feel safe, comforted, and less alone.

We'll have radios playing calming music, toys and enrichment activities available, and plenty of treats for pets and people alike! Bring a book, a blanket, your favorite playlist, or just yourself. Your calm presence can make all the difference.

What a wonderful day at Texas East Kids Summer Camp! ๐Ÿพ

This week is Animal Camp, and the kids are spending their time learning all about animals and the important role they play in our lives. Today, we were honored to join them and share a little bit about the rescue world.

We brought along Scooby and Rick, two of our amazing rescue dogs, and Pepper, our sweet and loving cat, to spend some time with the campers. Olivia and James talked with the kids about what we do, why animal rescue is so important, and how to properly care for and respect animals.

It was such a joy to spend time with these wonderful kiddoes, answer their questions, and help them learn compassion, kindness, and responsibility toward all living things. Seeing their excitement and love for animals gives us so much hope for the future.

Thank you, Texas East Kids, for inviting us to be part of your Animal Camp week! โค๏ธ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฑ

We had 10 dogs scheduled to leave on a Wings of Rescue transport flight on June 27th, headed toward their second chance at life and loving forever homes.

Unfortunately, due to the New World Screwworm outbreak, Pennsylvania and New York have now closed their borders to dogs coming from Texas. As a result, two of our precious pups, Mr. Rocky and Mr. Butterball Boyd, have lost their spots on the transport.

We are keeping our fingers crossed that Maine remains open so that the other 8 dogs can still make their journey to the loving homes waiting for them.

This news is especially heartbreaking for Butterball. He has been with us for so long, and our staff and volunteers were overjoyed knowing that his long wait was finally coming to an end. Mr. Rocky was also looking forward to his fresh start, and now both boys find themselves waiting once again.

While we hope transport opportunities will open back up soon, we would love nothing more than to see these handsome gentlemen find homes right here in East Texas. If you have room in your heart and home for a loyal companion, please consider adopting or fostering Mr. Rocky or Mr. Butterball Boyd.

Sometimes the journey to a forever home takes a detour. Let's show these boys that their happy ending is still out there. โค๏ธ๐Ÿพ

Sometimes life changes in ways we never expect.

In Upshur County, an elderly couple had 15 dogs that they loved dearly and did their very best to care for. Unfortunately, as their health declined and financial hardships increased, they reached a point where they could no longer provide for their beloved pets. Both have now moved into a nursing home, leaving no one behind to care for the dogs.

One of those dogs is a sweet girl named Baby.

Baby had been living outside under a small wooden A-frame shelter, tethered by a wire cable. Despite her circumstances, she remained gentle, loving, and eager for affection.

When the family and the Upshur County Sheriff's Office reached out for help, animal advocate Kerri Downs stepped in. After meeting Baby, Kerri saw a shy but incredibly sweet dog who simply wanted someone to love her. She immediately contacted Kat, who told her to bring Baby to Pets Fur People.

Today, Baby is safe.

She is receiving the care, comfort, and love she deserves while we work to find her a forever family. Her life has changed dramatically in just a short time, and while she may be a little shy right now, we know her true personality will shine through as she learns that she is finally safe.

We are grateful to Kerri Downs, the Upshur County Sheriff's Office, and the family for doing what was best for Baby and reaching out for help when they needed it most.

Welcome to the Pets Fur People family, Baby. Your next chapter starts now. โค๏ธ๐Ÿพ
