"This is the essence of the transaction between storyteller and audience. The "true" story is not the one that exists in my mind; it is certainly not the written words on the bound paper that you hold in your hands. The story in my mind is nothing but a hope; the text of the story is the tool I created in order to try to make that hope a reality. The story itself, the true story, is the one that the audience members create in their minds, guided and shaped by my text, but then transformed, elucidated, expanded, edited, and clarified by their own experience, their own desires, their own hopes and fears." -- Orson Scott Card

Jules Vernes' Around the World in Eighty Days: annotated by David Emprimo (Leopold Masterworks) 06/15/2026

We're excited to announce the third book in our LEOPOLD MASTERWORKS series of annotated classics: Jules Verne's AROUND THE WORLD IN EIGHTY DAYS, annotated by David Emprimo.

Jules Verne’s AROUND THE WORLD IN EIGHTY DAYS remains one of literature’s most delightful adventures—a spirited race across continents at the moment global travel was being transformed by steam, rail, and telegraph. This Leopold Masterworks edition celebrates the novel’s enduring charm while offering readers a deeper look at the world Verne imagined and the rapidly changing one he was writing from.

Thoughtful annotations throughout the text illuminate the historical, geographical, and cultural context of Fogg’s journey. They clarify where Verne’s research was remarkably accurate, where he relied on speculation or outdated sources, and where the novel reflects the language and assumptions of its 19th‑century moment. These notes preserve the original text while helping modern readers navigate its complexities with clarity and understanding.

More than 150 years after its publication, AROUND THE WORLD IN EIGHTY DAYS continues to inspire adaptations, homages, and real‑world journeys. This edition invites both first‑time readers and longtime admirers to rediscover Verne’s classic with fresh insight—and with the same sense of curiosity and delight that has carried it across generations.

All of us here at Leopold Press would like to take a moment to thank our friends at County Line Magazine for their support over the years. From the very first NEWTONBERG book up through THE SILENCE BEWEEN, they have been a constant friend to us in getting the word out about our books.

We wish them the best in whatever the future holds for them!

The number 250 takes center stage in this new issue. Not only are we celebrating the freedom put into motion 250 years ago, but this is also County Line Magazine’s 250th issue since we began in January 2000. With this milestone comes the announcement that we are closing County Line Magazine, and this issue is our last. Please enjoy!

We're excited to announce the second book in our LEOPOLD MASTERWORKS series of annotated classics: Christopher Morley's THE HAUNTED BOOKSHOP, the sequel to PARNASSUS ON WHEELS (book one of LEOPOLD MASTERWORKS).

Step inside Brooklyn’s most unusual bookshop—where every shelf has a story, every book has a mission, and the proprietor believes literature can save the world.

In The Haunted Bookshop (1919), Christopher Morley brings Roger and Helen Mifflin back to the page in a spirited blend of mystery, literary appreciation, and post‑war reflection. Part love letter to books, part adventure, part cultural commentary, the novel captures a moment when ideas felt urgent and booksellers felt like guardians of civilization.

Paired here with Morley’s rare essay “Meditations of a Bookseller,” this annotated edition offers both the bustling life of the shop and the private philosophy of the man behind the counter. Together, they form a vivid portrait of a bookseller, a marriage, and a world learning to hope again.

Perfect for lovers of bookshops, literary history, and the irresistible charm of Christopher Morley.
