I am a conservative Christian, running for the Republican Party for the Smith County Precinct #2 Constable position.

I am an honorably retired, 28-year veteran of the Tyler Police Department. During my tenure with the Tyler PD from 1991-2019, I served in the following units: patrol, traffic, background investigations, recruiting, honor guard and as a financial crimes investigator. I was honored to be a member of the US Secret Service Financial Crimes Task Force, which was vital in bringing an end to the gas pump

After almost 42 total years in Law Enforcement, including Smith County SO, CHISD, and the Precinct #2 Constable's Office, Deputy Steve Dunklin retired last week. There was never a dull moment with Steve around, and he is loved by the citizens of Smith County. Thank you Steve for all you have done to represent our county well, and good luck in your future endeavors. Pictured below is his duty weapon that we had engraved with our badge and his dates of service at the Constable's Office. Photos by Christin Rae

Just a friendly reminder of Texas State Law in reference to passing a school bus when loading or unloading.

Textbook handling of two suspects at one time. One actively resisting arrest and attempting to disarm a police offi er and the other instigating the situation and interfering with the arrest.

Let’s set the record straight and deal with the facts.

Let’s not skip over the fact that Ms. Erwin made a choice—a choice to try and take an officer’s gun and kill them. And yet, despite having every legal and moral right to defend themselves with deadly force, our officers chose to save her life instead. They made that impossible decision in a split second and showed exactly the kind of courage and restraint we demand from our police.

If that’s not what you want from your officers, maybe it’s time for a serious reality check. These officers are heroes—not villains. They risked their lives and still chose to preserve the life of someone actively trying to take theirs.

And for those trying to spin this as some racial issue by comparing it to the Lindale incident—stop spreading ignorance. The man in Lindale complied with officers. Ms. Erwin refused to comply and tried to kill them. Those are the facts, and it’s time to stop ignoring them.

Enough with the divisive lies built on assumptions and misinformation. It’s time to stand together as a community and demand better behavior from our fellow citizens. Comply with lawful orders, and these situations simply won’t happen.

Law enforcement has never claimed to be perfect. But one thing is certain—the middle of the street is not the place to argue with police.

Time and again, our officers have proven their commitment to this community. They show restraint, professionalism, and courage under unimaginable pressure—making life-and-death decisions in the blink of an eye and getting it right over and over again. And they do this while dealing with the same personal struggles as everyone else.

These heroes deserve your respect and support. Period!

Praying for the family of officer Sam Lively, as well as my Tyler PD family.

On April 25th, around 6pm, Tyler Police responded to a traffic crash on Troup Hwy. just north of Loop 323.

The investigation showed that a motorcycle rider was traveling south on Troup Hwy. in the outside lane. Another vehicle was traveling south in the inside lane as they approached Loop 323. The vehicle changed lanes and impacted the motorcycle.

The rider was transported by EMS to a local hospital where he died from his injuries. Officer Sam Lively was an off-duty Tyler Police Officer. He recently graduated from the police academy and completed field training.

“Officer Lively was an amazing young man that wanted to serve the Tyler Community. He will be missed by everyone that had the privilege of knowing him. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends and fellow officer's.”

This case remains under investigation.

I once again had the honor to go on mission to Uganda with Rock of Living Water Ministries last month. This ministry is based in Tyler and was started by my wife and I in 2018, she serves at the Ministry Director. For several years it has operated a home for orphaned and abandoned babies as well as a church on site in Rwenjeru Village outside of Mbarara Uganda. Currently there are 25 babies residing in the baby home. Most have been abandoned, one that was left to die in a pit latrine after birth, some found living in a forest and others sent by the Ugandan "CPS" after abandonment. While there, we also launched, and had a ribbon cutting celebration for the Rock of Living Water Christian School that was recently built on the property. This school will open this month (February) and already has over 50 students enrolled. This endeavor is no small undertaking and will need lots of ongoing prayers and support. With the close of 2024, our office wrapped up our busiest year yet. In the spirit of transparency, below are the 2024 civil paper totals for our office. We were assigned 1284 papers to serve (the most of any precinct in the county), we responded to 124 ACTUAL calls for service (1254 if you add our civil process calls), for a total of 1258 citizen contacts, not counting the daily walk ins to our office.
Our office provided top notch, professional and ethical service to our community while cutting waste and maintaining the lowest budget of all precincts in the process. Thank you for entrusting us with your tax dollars and the responsibilities and duties of the Precinct #2 Constable's Office. We look forward to a great 2025 serving the citizens of Smith County.

Had a great visit with some Precinct #2 citizens this morning at Blakeney Hardware in Gresham. Pct #1 Commissioner elect Christina Drewry is hosting "Coffee with a Commissioner elect" at this location every Wednesday morning at 8am. If you haven't been yet, check it out. Good conversation and coffee all in one place.
Thank you Jason and Christina for the invite.
