Faith-inspired support for women & families

09/12/2026

If I could urge you on anything, it would be to stop trying to figure things out alone. You don't have to.

Life has a way of convincing us we should already know what to do.

So we keep smiling, carrying the weight, and telling ourselves we'll figure it out eventually.

But some burdens become lighter simply because someone is willing to walk beside us.

Not to judge or lecture or rush the process. But to embrace the process with you. And to listen.

Asking for support isn't weakness.

Sometimes it's one of the strongest decisions you'll ever make.

Let's talk. Let's heal. One conversation at a time.

I find that being honest is the toughest thing about speaking with a Christian counselor. The fear of judgement from another Believer is real for many.

The lie we often believe is that we'll finally heal once we have everything together.

But healing doesn't begin with perfection.

It begins with honesty. So say it out loud:

"I'm exhausted."
"I'm angry."
"I'm scared."
"I don't know what to do."
"I need help."

Instead of seeing those as words of failure, see them as the first steps toward Freedom.

You don't have to pretend you're okay to begin healing.

You just have to be willing to tell the truth.

Let's talk. Let's heal. One conversation at a time.

There's space for your story at The Ruby Root.

You don't have to have the perfect words or know exactly where to begin.

You don't even have to convince anyone that your hurt is "bad enough."

Sometimes healing starts with one conversation. One honest sentence to someone who isn't trying to "fix" you.

Whatever chapter you're in right now, your story matters, and you don't have to carry it alone.

Growth is uncomfortable… but so is staying stuck.

For most of us, the real reason we resist change is because it's unfamiliar. We're not lazy. We just avoid what we don't know.

Growth asks us to have the conversation we've been avoiding.

To set the boundary we've been afraid to set.

To forgive.

To ask for help.

To admit we're tired.

To let go of what no longer fits who we're becoming.

It's not easy!

But neither is living the same day over and over like it's Groundhog Day hoping something or someone will change on its own.

Growth isn't comfortable, but it is where hope lives.

If you know someone who may be "stuck", will you share this page with them? I believe in my heart that it will be a blessing to them. ❤

"What are you recovering from?" is a bigger question than it sounds.

We usually hear "recovery" and think about something physical or perhaps addiction. But that's way too narrow.

What I find most often:
* a relationship that changed you
* losing a loved one
* a church experience that hurt more than you expected
* exhaustion and resentment from from years putting everyone else first
* feeling like you lost yourself
* a body that doesn't let you do everything it once did
* a decision you regret

Sometimes your life simply isn't the way you pictured it.

Recovery can be physical. Or emotional. Or relational. Or spiritual. Or all of the above.

Whatever yours looks like, don't underestimate the courage it takes to say, "This hurt me, and I don't know what to do about it."

That's a pretty good place to begin the conversation.

So let's talk. Let's heal. One conversation at a time.

A few weeks ago, I had knee replacement surgery, and since then I've spent a LOT more time sitting still than I normally would. 😊 IYKYK I like to move it, move it!

And although I've been doing the best I can to have fun moments while I heal (feel free to laugh at the photo here), I've also been thinking about a word we use so often: Recovery.

Right now, mine is physical. It's PT, patience, small victories, frustrating days, fatigue and learning that healing doesn't care about my timeline. Ugh!

But sometimes you can't actually SEE recovery at all. Sometimes we're recovering from a broken relationship, blended families, a season of addiction. A common topic this year has been church hurt, grief, and self-doubt related to major life decisions.

It's all very real. And real hard too.

Unless we've worked together lately, I don't know what your brand of recovery is. But chances are you have struggled (or are struggling) with a season of life that's taken more out of you than you wanted.

I've experienced more than one kind of recovery in my own life. And one thing I'm being reminded of lately is this:

Recovery creates the opportunity to discover who you're becoming next.

Soooo... I'm still working on this knee. And apparently, patience. 😉 I have appreciated the conversations I've had the privilege of having the last few weeks. I'm blown away by the continued referrals but also the messages, phone calls, texts...

And I'm so thankful for my husband who's turned out to be a pretty good nurse and foot massager!

So while I take a little more time before getting fully back into the Ruby Chair, please reach out or share this page. I'll have some meaningful thoughts from the last few weeks that I'm sure will be helpful to you or someone you know.

I look forward to talking more about recovery with you. And I'll be thrilled to have you back at The Ruby Root.

Because I have a feeling there's a lot to talk about.

Big love, all! xo

It's okay to start over. And sometimes you just have to. And that's not admitting defeat. Sometimes it's one of the bravest decisions you'll ever make.

Maybe you're rebuilding after divorce. Learning how to parent in a different way. Maybe you're in recovery or starting a new job. Rebuilding trust that seems impossible to do.

Or maybe you've come to the realization that the way you grew up or the way you live out relationships isn't what is best for you.

New beginnings are often messy, uncertain, quiet - even lonely. They are not usually very glamorous.

But that healthy tree was once a seed. So, give yourself permission to begin again, to be a seed, to grow with deep and healthy roots.

I'm here to help. Let's talk. Let's heal. One conversation at a time.

We all have a story. And there's a space for your story here.

What your story doesn't require of you is having the perfect words or knowing exactly where to begin.

You don't have to convince anyone that your hurt is "bad enough" to ask for help. In healing, there is no room comparison of whose story is more painful. Your story is yours alone.

Sometimes getting to the root of you starts with one simple conversation. One honest sentence. One person who listens without trying to fix you.

Whatever chapter you're in right now, your story matters. And you don't have to carry it alone.

Let's talk. Let's heal. One conversation at a time.

None of that is easy, so give yourself a pass. What else isn't easy? Living the same day over and over like it's Groundhog Day.

Growth rarely feels comfortable. But it is where hope takes root.
