Farmland Working Group
Striving to Protect Food, Families, Farmland With local officials changing regularly, there is a need for constant education and communication.
Keeping our elected officials educated and committed to the long term protection of the worlds most productive farmland is our challenge.
This is a good article — put Data Centers on the poorest soils, not the nation’s most productive agricultural lands. The speaker is the Ag Commissioner from Texas. Two-thirds of the 3,000 planned Data Centers are in rural areas. The Ag Commissioner is asking that there be guard rails so the centers are built in brownfields, built on poor soils and not on the most productive ag land.

Leading all other states in farm income, California maintains a $50 billion farm economy that provides countless jobs.
The state's farming industry is equally important for its contribution to the environment and regional culture. With more than half of California's land in agriculture, its landscapes draw tourism, promote diverse ecosystems, and mitigate climate change.
No Farmland, No Farms.
The main cause of
farmland loss
is urbanization,
40,000 acres/year
"… farmland conservation in a rural agricultural region like the San Joaquin Valley is linked to citizen advocacy and holds hope that future long term economic development - both agricultural and urban - will save farmland and grow cities."

Farmland Working Group is a small organization with no paid staff. The Board of Directirs is focused and fierce in its commitment to our local farmland and sustainable development.
Without your trust and financial support, we couldn’t do our important work.

Jeani Ferrari’s speech (in part) to Stanislaus LAFCO COMMISSIONERS (Oct. 23, 2024) —
…”Nothing will impact the future of this county, or the future of its residents’ quality of life, more than the votes by Stanislaus LAFCO commissioners. That’s huge. Long after my life, and your lives, the decisions that you make as LAFCO commissioners will determine if this county, rich in productive agricultural land and open spaces, will remain an ag-producing region AND have sustainable cities.”
REMEMBER — three votes by LAFCO commissioners can expand our cities’ borders or maintain our cities’ borders. So, when you vote for city council members, mayors or county supervisors — consider asking the candidate their position on preserving farmland and growing sustainable communities. Non-partisan local elections have zero to do with political parties. Period.

Oktoberfest has its origins in a horse race that took place in 1810 to celebrate the wedding of Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen.

If there’s one thing we all have in common, it’s that we need to eat!
It’s predicted by the U.S. Department of Commerce and other sources that we may need more food in the next 100 years than was consumed in the last 7,000 years...
Scary statistic, right? That's why we must protect our working lands and appreciate farmland as a valuable natural resource. No land = no food!

Did you know that California is the number one wine producing state in the US? So much of our beautiful farmland is used to produce wine grapes!
