This fall semester, Phillips is opening the classroom doors a little wider by offering a selection of audit courses for the public. Whether you’re looking to dive deeper into scripture, history, or ministry, there’s something exciting on the schedule.

One course is Introduction to New Testament, taught by Dr. Warren Carter. The class is online and held synchronously on Tuesdays from 8–10:45 a.m. Central. This course explores the origins of Christianity through the literary and historical worlds of the New Testament, first-century Judaism(s), and Hellenistic culture. By engaging both primary and secondary sources, students will discover the rich diversity of scholarly perspectives surrounding Jesus, the early Church, and the literature that shaped the Christian tradition.

Additional courses available for audit include Wesley and Methodist Evangelism, Political Pastoral Theology, and Introduction to Theology.

The audit fee is $40 per credit hour. To begin the enrollment process for auditing a course, contact our Director of Recruitment and Admissions Ulysses Allen at [email protected].

Ever wondered what an 1800s columnist might have said about the world around them?

Our archivist has just uncovered something fascinating! Phillipa Rosman, Special Collections and Archivist Librarian, recently processed a collection of historic news clippings from The John Boggs Manuscript collection in the archive. John Boggs was an abolitionist and prominent member of Disciples of Christ.

These clippings offer a glimpse into the ideas, opinions, and storytelling of the 19th century.

Politics, theology, and big questions collide this fall. Join Dr. Peter Capretto for “Political Pastoral Theology” through Phillips’ Fall 2026 audit program, Oct. 12–16 on campus.

This course explores the intersection of pastoral care, theology, and public life, equipping ministry students with a foundational understanding of the political dimensions of caregiving. Students will examine how pastoral theology extends beyond traditional counseling contexts into social advocacy and public engagement, while critically considering how race, gender, sexuality, disability, and socio-economic realities inform pastoral leadership, advocacy, and witness.

Other courses being offered include “Wesley and Methodist Evangelism”, “Introduction to New Testament”, and “Introduction to Theology”. The audit fee is $40 per credit hour. To initiate enrollment to audit a course, contact Ulysses Allen at [email protected]

We’re excited to introduce the final two Seminary Scholars for 2026,
Kimberly Roberts and Tiziana Severse!

Kimberly Roberts currently serves as a Commissioned Minister for a Disciples of Christ congregation in Boise, Idaho and is excited to begin the Master of Divinity program at Phillips. Outside of work and study, she is a mother of two who enjoys playing guitar and creating custom t-shirts.

Tiziana is thrilled to be joining the Phillips community as a Seminary Scholar pursuing her Master of Divinity. She makes her home in North Carolina, where she is a mother to two wonderful little girls and an active member at Land of the Sky, a UCC congregation in Asheville. Tiziana is passionate about helping those with religious trauma overcome past experiences with toxic theology and create spiritual practices that are lifegiving. She spends her free time making music, podcasting, and enjoying the Blue Ridge mountains with her family.

Leave your congratulations to Kimberly and Tiziana in the comments!
