Staff is out of town at competition or vacation so we will not be running open mat today. Enjoy your Saturday! Spread the word!
Join us next Saturday for another workshop where we will learn how to control and use the crab ride position to get to the back! Open to all affiliations. Leave your opponents dazed and confused as you climb them like a ladder and take their back!
Feeling the power of Jiu Jitsu makes you either want to learn it or avoid it at all costs 😂
Leg locks don’t start with the finish. They start with the entry.
In this clip, Coach Matt breaks down a fundamental Ashi Garami entry and a simple transition to Cross Ashi Garami—two positions that form the foundation of a strong leg lock game.
Whether you’re brand new to leg attacks or looking to sharpen the details, mastering these entries will make every leg lock you learn later more effective.
This is part of our 4-Week Leg Lock Crash Course at Primate Jiu Jitsu, where we’re covering everything from entries and control to finishing mechanics and combinations.
Train smart. Build the foundation first.

Just making it to the mat is a win! But there might be peer pressure… 😂
Learning how to defend yourself isn’t magic.
There are no shortcuts. No secret techniques. No amount of watching videos, collecting belts, or drilling moves in a cooperative environment that can replace the experience of dealing with resistance.
If you never get uncomfortable, you’re not learning how to fight. You’re learning choreography.
Jiu-Jitsu only works because we pressure test it against people who are actively trying to stop us. That’s what builds timing, confidence, problem-solving ability, and the skills needed to function when things don’t go according to plan.
The reality is that most people don’t train because they plan on getting into a fight.
They train for the small chance that someone tries to victimize them or someone they love.
Because if that day ever comes, the last thing you want is the realization that you spent years telling people you train martial arts without ever developing the ability to actually apply it.
Imagine watching someone hurt your family and being powerless to stop it.
That’s why we train.
Not because we’re looking for trouble.
Not because we think we’re tough.
Because being capable is better than being helpless.
The good news? You don’t have to be an athlete, a competitor, or some naturally gifted fighter to become more capable.
Anyone can train.
Anyone can improve.
Anyone can become harder to intimidate, harder to control, and more prepared than they were yesterday.
At Primate Jiu Jitsu, we’ll meet you where you are. Whether you’re young, old, athletic, out of shape, nervous, or completely brand new, we’ll help you find a way to train safely while still challenging yourself enough to grow.
Surround yourself with good people.
Embrace the discomfort.
Become more capable.
That’s where confidence comes from. 💪🦍
