From the Archives at the Tulsa Fire Museum

This photograph was recently found in the Museum's collection. The only information accompanying it is simply: "1986 – 16th & Memorial."

While our team has not yet identified the specific incident from the information we have available, the image stood out for its composition, and we felt it was worth sharing.

The Museum has collected over 50,000 photographs and news clippings related to the history of the Tulsa Fire Department. As we begin the long process of cataloging and documenting these materials, additional photographs, duplicate views, dates, names, locations, and other context are invaluable in helping us build a more complete historical record.

If you have photographs, news clippings, or other items related to fire scenes, training exercises, station life, special events, or other moments in Tulsa Fire Department history that you would like to share with the Museum, please contact us at [email protected].

Every item adds another piece to the story of the Tulsa Fire Department!

What a fun day!

We are incredibly grateful for the support shown at our first Firehouse Bingo fundraiser yesterday. Thanks to a wonderful turnout, generous sponsors, dedicated volunteers, and enthusiastic players, the event was a tremendous success and an important step forward in supporting the Tulsa Fire Museum's mission.

A heartfelt thank you goes to Hasty Bake Charcoal Grills for donating the grill for our raffle, 1-800-BOARDUP for sponsoring our television grand prize, and to Scheels, QuikTrip, Tulsa Zoo, RibCrib BBQ, Watershed Hospitality, and Black Bear Diner for their generous prize donations and support. We are especially thankful for Firefighters Credit Union, whose continued partnership has helped make many of our programs and events possible.

Additionally, we would also like to recognize our volunteers and board members who gave up part of their Saturday to help make the event run smoothly. From setup and registration to concessions, game operations, cleanup, and everything in between, this event was made possible by people who believe in the museum and are willing to invest their time and energy into its future. The level of commitment we continue to see from our team is incredible, and we could not be more appreciative.

As for the Hasty Bake Raffle, we send our congratulations to John V. of Broken Arrow, and thank you to everyone who purchased raffle tickets in support of the museum.

We would also like to congratulate our young friend Liam, who took home the television grand prize. His "lucky bow tie" quickly became one of our favorite moments of the day and proves that community events like these are welcoming and enjoyable for the entire family! As we continue to grow these programs, we hope to create even more opportunities for friends, families, supporters, and neighbors to come together while supporting a great cause.

The proceeds from this fundraiser will help support museum operations, preservation efforts, educational programming, and several exciting projects that are already in the works. We have some big things on the horizon, and your support helps keep us moving forward.

Thank you again to everyone who attended, volunteered, donated, sponsored, and cheered us on. We are humbled by the support we continue to receive and are already looking forward to our next bingo event. Stay tuned; we'll be sharing details soon!

Another great Story Time is in the books! 📚

Each month, we have the privilege of welcoming families to the Tulsa Fire Museum for a morning of stories and learning all about our firefighters. We’re incredibly grateful to the Fire Fighters Credit Union for sponsoring this program and providing refreshments and a free book for every child to take home. We’re also thankful for the Tulsa Fire Department firefighters who volunteer to read to the kids and bring a fire truck for a hands-on show-and-tell experience.

This has become one of our favorite programs at the museum. We love seeing the excitement from both kids and parents throughout the event, especially when the fire truck pulls up and everyone rushes outside for a closer look!

Story Time is completely free and open to the public. If you would like to learn more about upcoming dates and what to expect, visit TulsaFireMuseum.org/story-time.

Thank you to the Fire Fighters Credit Union, the Tulsa Fire Department, and all of the families who continue to make this program such a huge success. We look forward to seeing you at the next Story Time!

A huge thank you to Foundations Landscape and Southwood Landscape and Garden Center for helping beautify the grounds of the Tulsa Fire Museum just in time for this Saturday’s cookout fundraiser and open house!

These crews worked incredibly hard all day long transforming our garden beds and helping bring new life and color to the historic Fire Alarm Building grounds.

As we continue preparing the Museum to be visitor-ready, partnerships like these make a tremendous difference. We’re grateful for businesses that believe in preserving Tulsa’s fire history and helping us present this historic landmark in a way the community can be proud of.
