Deer camp looks a bit different as a 3x (2 on this trip). We used to sleep on the ground in a tent in 20° weather, or crash in the back of a U-Haul trailer - 4 guys and a tiny propane heater. We’d hunt 4am-6pm, no meal breaks, no bathroom breaks, and hike 10+ miles a day to find deer. We’d sit in stands and blinds for 12 hrs a day without moving, without cell phones, and without distraction. Literally none of those things are on the docket when you’re 7-9 years old. So we did squirmy 1.5 hour sits, talked too loud, colored (with scented crayons 🤦🏻‍♂️) in the blind, and slept in a warm trailer watching Disney movies at night. Not surprisingly, the deer count was less (exactly zero), but memories were made and next year we’ll be one step closer to turning these girls into Danielle Boone’s and filling the freezer again.
