Meet Onyx, Ranger, Scout, and Moose! 4 very good dogs who came to us through G.I. Wishes/A Pet For A Vet Foundation. Theyâre a program that pairs veterans with adopted dog or trains their existing beloved dog companions to help them heal long after the uniform comes off.
Getting to be part of their training journey is one of the honors of doing this work. The bond between a veteran and their dog is something weâll never take lightly here.
If you know a veteran who could benefit from a program like this, go follow GI Wishes and see the incredible work theyâre doing.

This is the part of training that nobody talks about.
Itâs the part where your dog starts melting into you, where the leash gets looser, the eyes get softer, and your dog finally feels like themselves around you.
We train dogs to trust their person first, and the obedience comes with it.
Ready to meet your dog on the other side of the work? DM us or give us a call!

Happy Memorial Day from all of us at Torchlight Pets! Today is about honoring the the brave soldiers who gave everything, including the K9s who served right alongside them.
Now, if youâre one of the people hosting today, this oneâs for you.
Your dog is about to meet 14 strangers, 3 toddlers, a charcuterie board, and an unlocked back gate all in the same afternoon.
And we wonder why they lose it.
If youâre hosting today, your dog needs a game plan more than your menu does. Hereâs the one I give every client:
* Send them to their place before the doorbell rings. The second guests walk in and your dog is already spinning, the moment is gone. Youâre not training anymore. Youâre crisis managing.
* Feed them before anyone arrives. A full dog isnât scavenging the picnic table for the chicken bone thatâs going to land you at the emergency vet on a holiday.
* Give every guest the exact same rule. No table feeding. No wrestling. No âIâll just let him out real quick.â One Karen with a hot dog can undo six months of training.
* Build in a hard break. Even your social butterfly hits a wall around hour two. Quiet room, frozen Kong, closed door, 30 minutes. Theyâll come back a different dog.
* And if your dog isnât ready for a full house yet? Boarding them for the day isnât giving up. Itâs the most respectful thing you can do for a dog who didnât ask to host a party.
The best dog owners I know arenât the ones whose dogs can handle anything. Theyâre the ones who know what their dog can handle, and plan accordingly.
Save this. Send it to whoeverâs hosting. Tag the friend whose dog is definitely going to steal a burger off the counter today.
Your puppy isnât being bad. Your puppy is becoming.
Every nip, every accident, every chewed shoe is the same question on loop. What do I do here?
The answer you give them in these 16 weeks becomes the default they carry for the next 15 years. Thatâs not pressure. Thatâs an opportunity most people donât realize they have until itâs gone.
Puppy Prep is how we help you answer those questions before bad habits get the chance to form.

Bringing home a puppy is wild. One minute youâre obsessed with how cute they are, the next youâre googling âis it normal for puppies to bite this muchâ at 2am.
The chewing. The potty accidents right after you JUST took them out. The zoomies that end with your sock somewhere across the house. Itâs a lot, and it happens fast.
Hereâs what most new puppy parents donât realize: these first few months are everything. What your puppy learns right now is what sticks. The habits forming today are the same ones youâll be dealing with at 1, 3, even 7 years old. Good news is, it works both ways. Solid habits stick just as hard, you just need the right roadmap.
Thatâs where we come in.
Our puppy program at Torchlight is built specifically for this stage:
⢠Sit, down, stay, recall, leave it, place
⢠Potty training and house manners that actually stick
⢠Calm greetings and patience around food
⢠Crate training for safety, travel, and a quieter home
⢠Loose leash walking before pulling becomes their thing
Every plan is built around your puppy and your lifestyle. No copy paste programs, no harsh methods, no shortcuts. Just trainers who genuinely get how puppies learn.
Those calm, well behaved dogs you see out in public? They didnât just turn out that way. Someone put in the work early.
If youâre ready to do the same, we got you.
DM us to get started.

About a year ago, Bâs family was told after one brief meeting with a trainer that the poodle their child had bonded with and chosen would never work as a service dog. They went through a long and painful journey that was heartbreaking and ended with the kiddo still in need of a service animal.
They sat down with us and we completely disagreed- their chosen dog had PLENTY of ability to serve Bâs needs!! Today, she comes into training excited. Her mom says she used to cry before sessions, and now she looks forward to them so much that she asked for a Torchlight T-shirt and wears it all the time. She brings bracelets for the trainers, has built such a sweet bond with the team, and most importantly, her dog is doing exactly what her dog is supposed to do.
Watching B grow in confidence and happiness through this process has meant the world to us.
The family is happy. The dog is thriving. And seeing the two of them succeed together is exactly why we do this.
** Shared with permission from her mom. Her face has been covered for privacy.

Hereâs what nobody tells you when you bring a dog home: training isnât a weekend project.
Most owners assume a few sessions of âsitâ and âstayâ should cover it. Real training, the kind that actually changes your day to day, usually takes 4 to 6 months of consistent work, and the upkeep never fully stops.
Puppies need foundational work starting around 8 weeks. Adolescent dogs (6 to 18 months) need real structure or every old habit comes back louder. Adult dogs can absolutely be trained too, it just takes the right approach and a little more patience.
The dogs you see walking calmly past distractions, greeting guests politely, riding in the car without a scene? Their owners didnât get lucky. They put in the reps with the right guidance, then kept reinforcing them.
Thatâs what we do at Torchlight. We donât just teach commands, we build a dog you actually want to live with, and we hand you the tools to keep them that way.

Another dog appeared out of nowhere. The kind of dog that wouldâve sent him into a full meltdown six weeks ago. Barking, lunging, the whole show.
But today? He looked. He paused. He looked back at me.
Thatâs it. Thatâs the whole post.

Board and train isnât boarding with a few tricks thrown in.
Itâs for the dog owner whoâs exhausted from trying. The one whoâs watched 40 YouTube videos and still canât get their dog to walk past another dog without completely losing it.
Hereâs how it actually works.
Your dog moves in with us where they eat, sleep, walk, train, and reset on a schedule built around real behavior change instead of just commands. The kind of change that actually sticks once theyâre back home.
We handle the heavy lifting for you, including off-leash control, obedience, potty training, and the behavioral stuff youâve been quietly Googling at 2am hoping for an answer.
When pickup day rolls around, we donât just hand you a âtrainedâ dog and wish you luck. We walk you through every cue, every correction, and every habit we built together so the work doesnât unravel the second they hit your couch.
This is built for busy owners, dogs who need more than a weekly group class, and people who are ready to stop managing the chaos and start actually living with their dog.
Thatâs what board and train means here at Torchlight Pets.

Most people come to us wanting a dog that listens.
What they actually leave with is a dog that trusts them.
Obedience is a just byproduct. Safety is the goal.
When your dog knows youâve got it handled, the pulling stops. The barking stops. The chaos stops. Not because theyâre suppressing it, but because they donât need it anymore.
Thatâs the work. Thatâs the whole thing.
