GPA Midstream Association
The GPA Midstream Association has been engaged in shaping the midstream sector of the U.S. energy industry since 1921
GPA Midstream was at the table last month when PHMSA's Gas Pipeline Advisory Committee (GPAC) met to review a proposed pipeline safety rule that could affect gas distribution and gathering pipelines nationwide.
Federal regulators strongly consider GPAC recommendations before publishing a final rule.
Robert Mitchell , Vice President of Carrera Gas and GPA Midstream board member, serves on GPAC alongside Chad Zamarin of Williams, which is a GPA Midstream member company. Both were at the May 28 meeting in Washington, D.C.
During the GPAC meeting at the U.S. Department of Transportation headquarters in Washington, D.C., committee members reviewed the agency’s proposed rule, “Safety of Gas Distribution Pipelines and Other Pipeline Safety Initiatives,” which has precedential implications for all pipeline operators.
The rule being reviewed focuses on updates to gas distribution pipeline requirements and is intended to strengthen system integrity, address emerging risks, and keep federal rules aligned with changing operating conditions.
The participation of Mitchell and Zamarin underscores how GPA Midstream members, especially those engaged in gathering and processing operations, can work cooperatively with other GPAC members to help regulators meet safety goals without creating unintended operational constraints.
Public comments on the proposed rule are open through June 29.

What's the hardest learned leadership lesson after 40 years?
For GPA Midstream Chair and MPLX COO Greg Floerke, it comes down to one thing: the difference between being a boss and being a servant leader.
That's just a glimpse of what Greg brings to the table in the inaugural episode of the Midstream News Podcast — Building America's Energy Backbone.
Hosted by VP of Marketing and Communications Kevin Broom, this first episode is a wide-ranging conversation with one of the most experienced voices in the midstream industry. Greg traces his journey from a Colorado farm to helping build the gathering systems, processing plants, and pipelines that transformed the U.S. into a global energy powerhouse.
And he doesn't hold back on what's coming next.
🎙️ In the full episode:
- How AI, automation, and advanced analytics are changing midstream operations
- Why data centers are driving unprecedented demand for natural gas and electricity
- The real challenges in permitting, supply chains, and infrastructure development
- Why GPA Midstream's role is more critical than ever as the industry evolves

Last month, GPA Midstream sent Emma Bickel and Stuart Saulters to the YPP USA 2026 Symposium in The Woodlands, Texas.
According to YPP USA, this year's event was the biggest Symposium in their history, anchored by a fantastic lineup of speakers.
Day 1 was structured around three technical tracks (Operational Excellence, Integrity, and Leadership) so attendees could dig deep into the areas that matter most to them.
Day 2 opened things up with the professional development and industry conversations that make the Symposium worth the trip every year.
We're grateful to have been invited, and proud to support an organization whose mission aligns so closely with our own. Building the next generation of midstream professionals is something we think about every day.

Last month, GPA Midstream's Emma Bickel attended the HGPA May Membership & Scholarship Recipient Luncheon at The Houston Club, and the highlights are too good not to share.
Emma came away energized by just how much the Houston GPA Midstream Chapter has accomplished. Their 2026 clay shoot broke their scholarship fundraising record, and they awarded $25,000 in scholarships to an impressive group of recipients who were able to celebrate the milestone in person.
Congratulations to Jason Upton on being elected as the new HGPA Chair, and a sincere thank you to Johnathan Fowler for a wonderful term! We wish him well as he transitions into the role of Past Chair.
Emma's takeaway? Get involved. The impact local GPA Midstream chapters have on the communities they serve is something every member of our industry should rally behind. Find your local chapter and get engaged!
