Mifepristone has been used for over 20 years by over 7.5 million people. The two-pill regimen, mifepristone and misoprostol, is FDA-approved for use up to 10 weeks of gestation.

The most recent data shows nearly half of births in Oklahoma were covered by Medicaid — but that coverage could be at risk. Lawmakers are advancing HB 4440 / HJR 1067, which could weaken the state’s voter-approved Medicaid expansion and put coverage for more than 200,000 Oklahomans on unstable ground.
When Medicaid coverage becomes harder to access, prenatal and postpartum care suffer. In a state already facing serious maternal health challenges, the proposed changes could deepen the crisis for mothers who rely on it most.

Drops were among the largest in essential specialties like OB/GYN and primary care. Even modest percentage decreases at the scale translates to thousands fewer applications, reshaping the future physician workforce in these regions.

A newly published March 2026 report from finds that U.S. abortion incidence remained stable from 2024 to 2025, at about 1.126 million, even as total and near-total state bans persisted.
It attributes this stability largely to the rapid expansion of telehealth abortion, which enables patients in restrictive states to access medication without traveling.
