We are so thankful for our amazing Helix team of BCBAs and RBTs. We are grateful for the wonderful families we serve. This Thanksgiving art from a couple of our kiddos is what is all about. 🥰

People love to hate ABA.
They call it abusive.
They say it’s about compliance and control.

But here’s what they don’t see:
Without ABA, Charlie wouldn’t communicate.
He wouldn’t brush his teeth, or sit safely in a car seat.
ABA didn’t “fix” him, it gave him tools to live a safer, more peaceful life.

People talk about “acceptance,” but to me acceptance without support is just neglect. It’s great to “accept” autism but when you have a nonverbal child with no sense of danger, not trying to teach them those skills in the name of acceptance is just ridiculous.

If you think ABA is abuse, you’ve never lived with profound autism.
You’ve never watched your child swallow screws, or bang his head until he bleeds, or cry because he can’t tell you what hurts.

ABA didn’t harm my child.
It helped him find his potential.
It taught him things people take for granted.
If it didn’t work for your child, too bad. It’s not for everyone, it’s not one-size-fits-all but it’s helped many and the disinformation has to stop.
