Celebrating the end of the year with Ms. Lewallen's Japanese Club at Celia Clinton Elementary! This year, some of the things students in the Japanese Club learned were ikebana (Japanese flower arrangement), kokeshi dolls, how to write/say thank you in Japanese, Ukiyo-e art (which uses stamps to make a picture), hanami (flower viewing), the koinobori used for Children’s Day celebrations, uchiwa fans, how to use chopsticks, and origami.

🐧 Have you ever met a penguin?! Our team visited the Tulsa Zoo to explore their education space and connect with their team ahead of our summer programming. Building partnerships like this is truly the heart of what we do at The Opp, and we're so grateful for the opportunity to learn and grow with the Tulsa Zoo!

Did you know that The Opp celebrated our 9th birthday last week?! 😮
To celebrate, we are asking 9 PEOPLE to become recurring donors to The Opp.
Why recurring? Because monthly support helps us keep afterschool and summer programs running strong for Tulsa youth year-round. Just $25/month = one hour of afterschool programming!

Last month, students tried the Tabata method in the Iron Knights Strength and Conditioning Club with Kevin Cline!
After bench pressing to warm up, youth in Iron Knights club took turns engaging in a high-intensity interval training method (HIIT) consisting of 20 seconds of all-out, maximum-effort exercise followed by 10 seconds of rest. This cycle is repeated 8 times and is called the Tabata method!

With a needle and thread, there isn’t much these Peary Elementary schoolers can’t do!
At Sewing Club, the goal for the day was to create a piece of clothing or an accessory for a stuffed bear. Youth broke out their sewing kits, brainstormed their project, measured their subject (in this case, the stuffed bear), chose and cut their fabric, threaded their needle, and got to work.
