Dr. Nagasawa specializes in cardiovascular and thoracic (CVT) surgery. His professional areas of interest include robotic thoracic lung surgery, single anesthetic pulmonary procedures (i.e. diagnosis of cancer and curative resection under one anesthesia) and minimally invasive cardiac surgery.
Dr. Nagasawa’s inspiration to pursue a career as a doctor formed during the mid-1990s while watching the popular TV series, “Chicago Hope.” The TV drama outlined the working dynamics of patients, medical administrators and doctors in and outside of the hospital.
While watching the show, Dr. Nagasawa grew to admire the role that Mandy Patinkin played as a cardiothoracic surgeon. He said, “I was fascinated by the ‘heart surgery’ on the show and felt that was something I could do,” said Dr. Nagasawa.
And that is just what he did.
Since 2013, Dr. Nagasawa has been working as a heart surgeon, bringing to life the inspiration he had pictured for his career.
As Dr. Nagasawa continues his passion, he builds relationships and new connections with patients. He does so on a foundation built on trust, listening to concerns and explaining diagnosis and treatment options in an understandable manner. He reassures patients and wants them to know: “We will take good care of you.”

💓 80-85% reduction rate in heart failure readmissions. That's what our CardioMEMs program has been doing since 2017.
This week, because of our excellent performance and rapid growth, Oklahoma Heart Institute (OHI) was chosen for an early release of the new HERO monitoring system (the only center in Oklahoma to participate).
What is the HERO monitoring system? It's designed to improve how patients take and send daily pulmonary artery pressure readings to their clinicians to monitor for signs of worsening heart failure.
If you or your loved ones need enhanced cardiology care, talk with your primary care physician or cardiologist to see your options.

Oklahoma Heart Institute (OHI) just became the first facility in the country to use the next-generation Supira percutaneous left ventricular assist device (pVAD) as part of the SUPPORT II research trial.
The SUPPORT II research trial studies the Supira pVAD device’s efficiency, helping the left ventricle pump blood through the heart during high-risk stenting while treating blockages in the heart. The investigational device utilizes a smaller profile than currently available VADs and more support for the patient’s heart, potentially expanding the available treatment population and improving effectiveness and safety. OHI is the only institute in the region participating in this trial.
Congratulations to our team, led by Dr. Kamran Muhammad and Dr. Robert Smith, on this milestone success.
