After 5 years of covering music and art from around the world, For The Punks is coming to an end. We would like to extend thanks to every person who has followed us and supported us, every person who has been part of the team, every band and publicist who reached out to us with new music and then another thank you to those who took the time to be involved in coverage when we requested it. We’ve had the absolute best time covering music these past five years in whatever way we could.
This magazine was started in 2019 during my first semester of college and there is no easy way to make a post like this and it was not an easy decision to end the magazine. I am lucky and honored to have been part of creating something so special with the help of so many amazing people throughout the years. It is something I will never forget.
Once again, thank you so much to everyone involved.

Another day, another highlight from our 5th Anniversary Edition! Today we are spotlighting Mae Saunders’s interview with Kentucky-based indie folk band, Bendigo Fletcher. The group has been releasing music for the better part of a decade and recently dropped their 4th studio album, Two Things at Once, back in March. Mae had the chance to talk with lead singer, Ryan Anderson, back in May following the band’s spring tour where they discussed Bendigo Fletcher’s release history, inspirations, and life on the road. Bendigo Fletcher is currently preparing for their second lap around the country this year and are most definitely coming to a city near you!

“New York-based band Been Stellar has been making waves in the industry as of late with a post-punk sound that returns listeners to the grimy garage shows of the ‘90s. Though they’ve been putting out music since 2020, the group just released their debut album Scream From New York, NY back in June and it has already made its way onto many “Best of 2024” lists. Scream From New York, NY features a rawness unlike anything else I’ve heard in recent years and undoubtedly marks the start of an incredible career for the young group.
Been Stellar was rocketed into the touring world following the pandemic and since then they’ve been around the block several times with bands like The 1975, Beebadobee, and even Interpol. The group is currently tailing another industry powerhouse, Fontaines D.C., around the country and I had the chance to sit down with the Been Stellar creative hivemind, aka Sam Slocum and Skyler Knapp, in Minneapolis to discuss their growth, artistic image, and of course, New York City.”

Rounding out Industry Inspo week at For the Punks is none other than Madi Florence!
“At For The Punks, we define a punk as someone that has an open mind, the grit to continuously learn and grow, and who is passionate about what they do. There are many well-known positions in the music industry such as photographers, journalists, and even the artists themselves, but what about the professionals that know and represent those artists?
Madi Florence is PR representative for Big Hassle Media, an independent music publicity firm based in both New York and Los Angeles. Throughout her career, she has represented many artists including Alt-J, Dashboard Confessionals, Young the Giant, GroupLove, flipturn, and more.
Her journey to being the representative we know today was not exactly straightforward. Though she had always intended on working in PR, she never imagined it would be in the music industry. That changed while she attended the University of Florida, as Madi found herself surrounded by an incredible music scene and fell in love.“

Up next for Industry Inspo week is none other than Amanda Laferriere!
“New York City based music photographer Amanda Laferriere is definitely good at making you look cool. Not only is she an incredible creative, but she is also a proactive industry professional. From photography to merch to tour management, if you need anything at all Amanda is your gal.
From a young age, Amanda was surrounded by photography. Her grandfather was a professional photographer and her mother took up photography as a hobby. Eventually between the ages of 14 and 15, Amanda’s journey to becoming a live music photographer began when her stepbrother asked her if she could take photos of his band, Life on Jupiter. After photographing one of their shows, she was completely set on becoming a music photographer.”

Welcome to Industry Inspo Week!!! One of our favorite parts of the 5 Year Anniversary Edition is our Industry Inspirations section that features three different interviews with three different amazing women in the music industry. As a women-led music publication, it was our goal to shed light on some of the incredibly passionate and hardworking women that are breaking the boundaries of the scene as we know it.
First up this week we have Deanie Chen!!!
“From being an associate attorney to crowd surfing at concerts to getting the perfect shot, Deanie Chen is a New York City based photographer who has had a roller coaster of a career. Like many of us, she braved the pandemic, thinking that her career as a music photographer was short-lived, but her life changed in an instant, eventually doing what she loved once more. Her career took off and since then she has worked with a variety of clients that showcase her talent such as Interscope Records, Spotify, Billboard, and Live Nation. She has even worked with artists such Holly Humberstone and MAX. But let’s start from the beginning- “
