A lot happens behind the scenes of a spay and neuter clinic.

Early mornings.
Careful hands.
Long hours.
Lots of teamwork.

These photos capture the people who made yesterday possible and the work that helps prevent pet overpopulation before it starts.

What a day. ❤️🐾

Today, Tulsa Animal Services, the Humane Society of Tulsa, community leaders, veterinarians, volunteers, and pet owners came together to launch Fix It, Tulsa and take meaningful action to address pet overpopulation.

From the families who brought their pets to be spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped, to the partners who made today's clinic possible, we're grateful for everyone who showed up to be part of the solution.

The work doesn't stop here.

Through the Fix It Challenge, we're inviting veterinarians, businesses, organizations, and community partners to join us in expanding access to services and helping educate our community about the importance of prevention.

Interested in joining the Fix It Challenge? Contact Tulsa Animal Services Director Sherri Carrier at [email protected].

Every pet fixed today helps prevent future litters and creates better outcomes for animals across Tulsa.

Forty-five minutes.

That's how long it took for all 88 spay and neuter appointments at today's free community clinic to be reserved.

If you've ever wondered whether Tulsans care about their pets, there's your answer.

Today, we officially launched Fix It, Tulsa, a community-wide effort focused on reducing pet overpopulation through prevention, education, and partnerships.

Last year, more than 8,900 animals came through our doors. Many were the result of unplanned litters. While adoption and fostering will always be critical, shelters cannot adopt their way out of pet overpopulation.

The most effective solution is prevention.

Every pet spayed or neutered today helps prevent future litters, reduces shelter intake, and creates better outcomes for animals and the people who love them.

This is a challenge we can only solve together.

If you're a veterinarian, business owner, marketing firm, rescue group, neighborhood association, or community organization, we invite you to join the Fix It Challenge and help us make a lasting impact on Tulsa. Contact Tulsa Animal Services Director Sherri Carrier, at [email protected] for more details.

If you're a pet owner interested in future reduced- or no-cost spay and neuter services, vaccinations, or microchips, email [email protected] to be added to our notification list.

The community showed up today. Shout out to our partner, Humane Society of Tulsa. Let's keep the momentum going.

Just when we think we've seen it all, life at the shelter finds ways to surprise us.

This week's unexpected guests include two piglets and a black swan.

Batman (A182851) and Robin (A182852) were recently found wandering the Tulsa streets on their own. Thankfully, their crime-fighting days are behind them, and they're now enjoying the good life in one of our play yards while they wait for a new home. Both piglets are available for adoption.

Then there's Echo, a striking black swan who was found near Ho***rs and has quickly made an impression on our staff. Echo is beautiful, confident, and has absolutely no problem letting everyone know how they feel about things.

Echo remains on a stray hold through June 18. If you recognize this feathered friend, please contact our team.

While dogs and cats make up most of the animals we care for, every now and then we get a reminder that animal sheltering can be a little unpredictable.

And honestly? That's part of what makes this job so interesting.

We hope each of these unique guests finds their way home soon, whether that's back to their owner or into a new family.

Kitten season is in full swing, and we are overflowing with puppies and kittens who need foster homes.

Right now, we are caring for more litters of kittens and puppies than we can comfortably manage, and we urgently need foster families to step up and help.

While our team is doing everything possible to care for these tiny animals, a shelter is never the ideal place for newborn puppies or kittens. Young animals are especially vulnerable to illness, stress, and overcrowded situations. Foster homes provide the safe, quiet environment they need to grow, thrive, and stay healthy.

Every litter that goes into foster care creates more space and resources for the animals still waiting at the shelter.

We prefer to place litters together, but we're happy to work with foster families based on their space and availability.

If you've ever considered fostering, now is the time.

Stop by the shelter or contact our team to learn more.

Our blanket supply is getting low.

Blankets help us care for animals every day. We use them as bedding in kennels, to comfort animals recovering from medical procedures, to reduce stress in crates, and to support foster families caring for pets in need.

If you have gently used blankets to spare, we’d be grateful for the donation.

Donations can be dropped off daily from 2 to 6 p.m. at Tulsa Animal Services, 3031 N. Erie Ave.

Thank you for helping us keep shelter pets comfortable while they wait for loving homes.
