Join ONA and WSNA for a powerful conversation on health equity, justice, and the future of healthcare with Dr. Ben Danielson, pediatrician, educator, and nationally recognized advocate for health equity and social justice.

As healthcare faces growing challenges—from cuts to services and public health infrastructure to attacks on equity initiatives and the spread of misinformation—Dr. Danielson will explore the lasting impact of inequity on health outcomes and the urgent need for action. He'll discuss the difference between race and racism, how systems shape health outcomes, and the power of relationships, trust, and community voices to drive change.

Grounded in the spirit of Juneteenth, this conversation will challenge, inspire, and equip healthcare professionals to advance equity, advocate for their communities, and help build a more just healthcare system.

Participants can earn 0.5 CE contact hours for viewing this presentation on ONA’s Education Center. The webinar will also be available to watch on YouTube.

Oregon Nurses Association is accredited as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

PeaceHealth Sacred Heart is facing a $500,000 bill for violating Oregon's nurse staffing law. Nurses at PeaceHealth know that adherence to the law improves the work environment and allows them to better care for patients. But hospital executives continue to put up roadblocks when it comes to finalizing plans for five of Sacred Heart's units. Learn more:

NICU patients, babies in critical care, are some of the most vulnerable patients a hospital will ever see. Now, with overcrowding at OHSU, caregivers and families are concerned they won't be able to get the care they need.

"More patients are being squeezed into the [OHSU] NICU than it accommodated just a decade ago. In some cases, as many as eight families are sharing one room, each with just a couple feet at the bedside and a flimsy partition separating them..."

PARTY! 🎉 Nurse leaders from Legacy's Portland facilities hosted a picnic on May 30 to celebrate the beginning of contract negotiations. It took more than a year for Legacy to agree to bargaining dates with Good Sam, Emanuel, Randall, Resource Pool, and Ambulatory units. Folks gathered to recommit to the goal of negotiating fair contracts that provide for patient safety, improved working conditions, and market-competitive wages.
Leaders from bargaining units at Providence, Legacy, OHSU and Asante also stopped by to offer support and encouragement.

Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) at OHSU are passionate about safe, quality patient care and educating the healthcare workforce. Late last year they ratified their first contract which included groundbreaking workload protections - but OHSU is already backing out of the agreement.

On Friday, May 29, almost 100 APPs and their supporters gathered near the OHSU Waterfront campus for a rally, demanding the university cease and desist implementation of across-the-board workload and schedule changes. The changes were pushed through without union collaboration. Administrators claim the changes will increase patient access but APPs worry about growing caseloads; resulting in rushed appointments with less time for each patient.

ONA believes that OHSU is legally required to bargain over these changes and is not allowed to unilaterally implement them. APPs are ready to work collaboratively on solutions that will protect patients and give providers the necessary time to manage complex cases and stay up to date on the latest medical advances.

⏰ LAST CHANCE ⏰
We only have until the end of tomorrow (May 30) to help our Providence Home Health and Hospice/Benedictine union siblings! Write to the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) to persuade them to impose reasonable and enforceable conditions on the new joint venture (JV) between Providence and for-profit home health provider, Compassus. Among many concerns, the OHA's recent proposed order threatens the quality care that our patients deserve by allowing rapid service area and clinician cuts.
