Why Pilates and Strength Training
You donât have to choose between mobility and power. In fact, you shouldnât. âď¸
If youâve ever wondered whether you should be hitting the Reformer or the weight rack, the answer is: Both. While many fitness programs force you to pick a "side," we believe the magic happens when you combine the two.
Here is why they are the perfect pair for lifelong fitness:
Pilates is your Foundation: It focuses on alignment, mobility, and the deep stabilizing muscles that protect your spine and joints. It gives you the "body awareness" needed to lift weights safely.
Strength Training is your Power: It builds the muscle and bone density necessary to prevent age-related loss and support your daily life.
The Result: Better balance, increased flexibility, and a level of functional strength that makes you feel resilient in everything you do.
How to combine them: You donât need to spend hours in the studio every day. You can alternate your Pilates and weight sessions throughout the week, or even use Pilates as a focused warm-up to prep your core before lifting.
At NW Core Balance, we specialize in teaching both. We help you bridge the gap between "moving well" and "moving strong."

Letâs clear the air on strength training. đď¸ââď¸
For women, building muscle isn't about "bulking up"âit's about staying functional, energized, and strong as we age. When you combine the alignment of Pilates with the resistance of weights, you unlock a new level of confidence.

Did your New Yearâs resolutions already "fail"? Good. Now we can start the real work. đż
By mid-January, the "New Year, New Me" hype usually starts to fade. The gyms get less crowded, the strict diets feel impossible, and that initial burst of motivation disappears.
If you feel like youâve already "fallen off the wagon," we have a secret for you:Â The wagon doesnât exist.
At NW Core Balance, we don't believe in 30-day fixes or extreme January overhauls. Real lifestyle change isnât a sprintâitâs a practice. Itâs about:
1. Consistency over Intensity:Â Showing up for a 20-minute walk or a Pilates session is better than a "perfect" workout you never actually do.
2. Progress over Perfection:Â One missed day isn't a failure; itâs just life.
3. Listening to the body in front of you:Â Some days you need the challenge of weight training; other days you need the restorative alignment of Classical Pilates.
Forget the guilt of a "broken" resolution. Letâs focus on building a body that feels strong, balanced, and confident for the next ten years, not just the next ten days.

We love connecting with other studio owners who care deeply about quality, education, and doing right by their clients.
Recently, Shelley had the pleasure of showing Will, owner of .cc.studio what Classical Pilates is all about and it was such a great reminder that strong businesses are built on strong bodies â and strong relationships.
Will and CC Studio specialize in small group training and private fitness, and they bring the same thoughtful, client-centered approach we value in our Pilates work. Itâs exciting to see another studio growing with intention â especially as CC Studio prepares to open a new space in West Linn this year.
We believe the fitness industry is better when studios support one another, share knowledge, and keep the focus on safe, effective movement.
Hereâs to collaboration, community, and helping people feel confident in their bodies. đ¤
đ Be sure to check out CC Studio and follow along as they expand this year.
