In search of Traditional Knowledge, the high-speed train China-Trip continues to the next stop: Shanghai (UNESCO Creative City of Design).

In search of Traditional and Living Heritage of Nanjing, the UNESCO Creative City of Literature, we found ourselves standing at the very genesis of formal literary discipline.

We were honored to visit the site where, in A.D. 439, the Chinese School of Literature was founded (pictured), blazing a global trail for literature as a separate academic field.

We are here on a mission to propose a powerful cultural re-connection.

While these plaques mark the preservation of formal text and print, we are uncovering the “unwritten” stories of human kind. Tracing the legacy of the Silk Road, we are finding that the proverbs, folk tales, and domestic poetry shared over the kitchen table while making flour-based foods are, in themselves, a vital and millennia-old form of oral literature.

We are launching "Bāo Zhī Jiān (包之间)”, a dedicated initiative to transform these fleeting kitchen stories into a permanent and accessible participatory archive—a 'living library' of intangible heritage.

We invite the Nanjing Literature Center—the descendants of that original School—to join us in this vision, bringing their unmatched literary authority to help us validate, curate, and preserve the deep 'wisdom of the oven' for the entire UCCN.

From 𝐉𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝟐𝟓-𝟐𝟕, the 𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐊𝐧𝐨𝐰𝐥𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞 𝐅𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 participated in the 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐮𝐦 in Riyadh, organized by 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐨𝐲𝐚𝐥 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐭𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐫𝐭𝐬 (𝐖𝐫𝐭𝐡) at the King Fahad Cultural Center.

Invited to contribute to the dialogue around "𝐹𝑟𝑜𝑚 𝑊𝑒𝑎𝑣𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑡𝑜 𝐺𝑙𝑜𝑏𝑎𝑙 𝑅𝑒𝑎𝑐ℎ 𝑎𝑠 𝑎𝑛 𝐴𝑚𝑏𝑎𝑠𝑠𝑎𝑑𝑜𝑟 𝑜𝑓 𝐶𝑢𝑙𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑎𝑙 𝐼𝑑𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑖𝑡𝑦," the Foundation shared how Creative Knowledge can transform intangible cultural heritage into a driver of sustainable development — generating economic value, social justice, and continuity across generations.

Giuseppe Biagini, representing the CK Foundation, contributed concrete examples — from bread traditions to creative textile exchanges — showing how living heritage connects territories, communities, and future generations.

The Forum also introduced a new initiative: "𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑱𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒏𝒆𝒚 𝒐𝒇 𝑾𝒆𝒂𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑻𝒐𝒘𝒂𝒓𝒅 𝑮𝒍𝒐𝒃𝒂𝒍 𝑹𝒆𝒂𝒄𝒉 𝒂𝒔 𝒂𝒏 𝑨𝒎𝒃𝒂𝒔𝒔𝒂𝒅𝒐𝒓 𝒐𝒇 𝑪𝒖𝒍𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒂𝒍 𝑰𝒅𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒕𝒚", focusing on Arabian heritage weaving as a foundation for global cultural dialogue.

One clear message: 𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐥 𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐠𝐞.

During the Traditional Arts Forum, January 25-27, 2026, we attempt to answer and propose solutions to finding sustainable ways to protect the “traditional arts” of the world.

Can heritage preservation be modeled with economic justice in mind? At the Traditional Arts Forum in Riyadh, we proposed ‘The Journey of Weaving’ project—connecting traditional weavers across the Arab world through fair value chains, digital documentation about the knowledge keepers, and direct market access. Starting with communities like Bedouin Al Sadu weavers, we’re recommending to build networks where knowledge keepers control their heritage and earn dignified livelihoods. Join the conversation. ”
