Convention, a now 8yo came to us a year ago after a solid career at the track with 42 starts with 6 wins earning 268k at 14 different tracks. He has moved into his retraining and is still looking cute! He was a barn favorite then and still has that personality. Www.dorescue.org

We are the same passion project but with MUCH more attention to record keeping! Thank you to the Team at for the guidance, support and action steps to supporting horses post racetrack life.

And we so appreciate the knowledgeable group of gals at Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance that keep this mission moving.

Learn all about Desert Oasis Rescue! 🐓

Surrounded by miles of dirt roads and lush Sonoran Desert, Desert Oasis Rescue (DOR) is just that, an oasis. It’s a refuge; a safe place for OTTBs to come after their racing careers to rest, decompress, rehabilitate and reinvent themselves into their next chapter. DOR’s President Rhonda (ā€œCassā€ to those that know her) has lived on property for 32 years. With a 10-stall barn, long row of turnouts, a few smaller pens, 2 larger paddocks and large sanctuary enclosure, and the attention to detail, her green thumb and horsemanship are on full display.

Delivery from a Colorado kill pen… This 17 year old mare, Blend of Brandy only ran 4 times unsuccessfully with a nothing pedigree and still doesn’t deserve to die by slaughter. We are not sure what the answer is. ALL types of horses end up in these feed lot sales, not just TB’s. We all must do better! This ā€˜ol gal got lucky. She’ll live out her days here at our desert oasis with care. Please support aftercare organizations www.dorescue.org

Zatter stands up perfectly on command and oozes class. Now a 10 year old, he ran 31 times 9-3-3 and is G1 placed. And check out that ankle! Yikes! He is the alpha male, smart, confident and inquisitive. He will live out his days at our Desert Oasis unable to do much after the injury. A perfect reminder- horses live a LONG time after the races. Please support your local aftercare organizations. Www.dorescue.org

And another one… Miss Pla is a 4yo by Mendelssohn. She sold as a yearling for 35k then ran (kinda galloped lol) 8 times in NY, OH, WV and ended up in the Stroud kill pen in OK. Luckily for her she’s been bailed out to our Desert Oasis. We as an industry MUST do more to prevent this. To support Miss Pla’s journey to recovery, retraining and rehoming visit www.dorescue.org to donate. 🩵

We love to see horses through our program in their happy new homes! This is 10 year old Famous Rockstar who ran 71 races! He has deserved this safe landing. 🩵 www.dorescue.org
