While there are some potential considerations with folic acid fortification, like excessive consumption that masks B12 deficiency and the potential impact of unmetabolized folic acid for some people, which needs more research, the benefits of folic acid fortification far outweigh the potential risks of fortification at this time (PMID: 37107407).
