The Tucson Wildland REMS Team deployed on Sunday, June 14, and has since responded to three incidents: the North Fire, Peak Fire, and Table Mountain Fire. Today, the team arrived in Sedona to assist with the Pocket Fire.

REMS, which stands for Rapid Extraction Module Support, is a specialized team dedicated to the rescue and medical care of injured or distressed firefighters operating on the front lines of wildland fires.

These highly trained emergency medical and technical rescue personnel are equipped to work in remote, steep, rugged, and hazardous environments where traditional ambulances and even aircraft may not be able to safely reach.

REMS personnel serve as a vital safety resource for firefighters working on the fireline. Their presence helps ensure that if an emergency occurs, specialized medical and rescue capabilities are already in place and ready to respond.

This Father’s Day, TFD is proud to share another edition of Firehouse Legacies featuring Captain Ed Lopez and his son, Steven Lopez.

Ed began his fire service career in 1984 and joined Tucson Fire in 1989. With just a year and a half left before retirement, he chose to spend this chapter of his career at one of Tucson’s busiest stations, running calls alongside his son.

Steven has served with TFD for 13 years, carrying on a family tradition of service, leadership, and commitment to the community.

Known around the station as the “dad” everyone looks up to, Ed has spent decades mentoring firefighters and leading by example both at home and in the firehouse.

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads and father figures who serve our community every day!❤️🚒
