One of the greatest and my favorite player of all time.

The first icon in the business world that I looked up to and could see myself in. When he opened the Magic Johnson Crenshaw 15 (theaters) circa 1995, I wrote him a letter expressing how inspirational it was and that I was going to build and develop groundbreaking s**t in LA one day.

One of those poetic moments in life, I joined him in providing meals to 800 South Central families at with . Full circle for someone who lived on 51st and used to go to everyday.

Today was a good day.

And when you’re mentoring the right person, it’s a tool to make yourself a better, sharper version of you.

My mentee is different. He’s a grad who was working on Wall St. with Morgan Stanley. He had rocked with the vision behind our work for a few years, and ultimately he approached me about joining the team.  

My initial feedback was what I believed to be protective of him: I told him to stay and get the experience of working at a blue chip firm on Wall St. and then come holler at me in a couple years.

But he was committed to doing something aligned with his social beliefs. He told me he really wanted to work with us, but regardless he was going to leave Wall St to charting a course similar to .   I said , “say less”.  And the rest as they say, is history.

He’s my first Own Our Own fellow and is already an invaluable part of the team.  Meet Neb everyone.  Show him some love 🙏🏽
