There is so much happening in such a short amount of time in this video. It's obvious this girl had good intentions and just wanted to give some affection to the dog. By not having an understanding of dog psychology, she didn't know that the best way to meet a new dog was to stay calm and allow the dog to use its nose and smell you, ESPECIALLY a police dog. Instead, as the dog was going to smell her, she got excited, touched the dog, and invaded the dogs space. We saw the result. The dog was acting in self-defense. While humans may rationalize the situation and see it as why would a dog bite a nice woman who was trying to say hello. However, the dog was just reacting to a human (animal) he didn't know invading his space excitedly. He reacted with fight state out of fight, flight, or avoid, which are the only ways a dog knows how to react to something, making them uncomfortable. If she had stayed calm, standing up, and allowed the dog to smell her, the dog likely would have smelled, not recognized the woman, and just moved on. Unfortunately, that's not what happened. The more people understand dog psychology, energy, behavior, and body language, the fewer incidents like these will happen. Are you understanding the importance of staying calm and allowing a dog, especially a dog you dont know, to use their nose first?

Interessanter Artikel über eine Studie der Universität Oslo über die Fähigkeit der Hunde, die Richtung einer Spur zu bestimmen.
Getestet wurde mit Tracking-Dogs, also Fährtenhunden, die mit tiefer Nase suchen auf Gras und Asphalt.
Aber das Ergebnis spricht für sich.
Nach nur rund vier Metern (2-5 Schritte) auf der Fährte konnten sie die Richtung klar definieren.
Wenn man überlegt, wie gering der Altersunterschied des "Geruchs" auf diesen wenigen Metern ist, kann man sich vielleicht ungefähr vorstellen, wie gigantisch die Nasenleistung unserer Vierbeiner ist....
