Watermark Retirement Communities is a leader in senior living, offering independent living, assisted living, and memory care communities focused on connection, wellness, and purposeful living.
This Pride Month, we’re proud to continue sharing the voices behind Not Another Second, Watermark’s national cultural awareness exhibition honoring LGBTQ+ older adults and the years they lost hiding their authentic selves.
Today, we spotlight the late Reverend Magora Kennedy, whose story is one of extraordinary courage, resilience, and advocacy. From participating in the Stonewall Uprising to spending more than 50 years living openly and proudly as a le***an, Reverend Kennedy dedicated her life to fighting for equality and inspiring future generations.
Not Another Second was created in collaboration with SAGE to ensure stories like hers are seen, heard, and remembered, while honoring the LGBTQ+ pioneers who helped shape a more inclusive future for all. 🌈

Meet the Team: Jeff Slichta, Chief Operating Officer
At Watermark, our people are at the heart of everything we do, and few understand that better than Chief Operating Officer Jeff Slichta.
With more than 30 years of experience in senior living, Jeff has served in nearly every corner of the industry, from Driver and Caregiver to Executive Director, Regional Director, Vice President, and now Chief Operating Officer. Those experiences have shaped his leadership philosophy and deepened his commitment to serving older adults while supporting the associates who make a difference in their lives every day.
Since joining Watermark in January 2025, Jeff has been energized by the passion, dedication, and sense of purpose he sees throughout the organization.
"What has impressed me most about Watermark is not only our mission, but the extraordinary associates who bring that mission to life through compassion, dedication, and genuine care."
When he's not working, Jeff enjoys spending time outdoors with his partner, Jeff, and their dog, Braxton. Whether they're camping, hiking, or mountain biking, they love making the most of every adventure. Family is also incredibly important to him, and he takes great pride in his four children and the unique paths they have chosen, from healthcare and wellness to travel, creativity, and service.
As Watermark continues to grow, Jeff is excited about welcoming new communities into the family and supporting the teams that make our mission possible. His gratitude for our associates and belief in the power of connection help guide his leadership every day.
We're grateful to have Jeff leading the way and helping shape the future of Watermark.
For many LGBTQ+ older adults, living authentically was not always safe.
Not Another Second shines a light on the lived experiences of LGBTQ+ seniors who spent years hiding parts of themselves due to stigma, discrimination, and fear. Through candid interviews and personal storytelling, the exhibition celebrates both their struggles and their extraordinary resilience.
This Pride Month, we’re proud to share these voices and honor the generations who helped create a more inclusive future for all.

In celebration of LGBTQ+ Elders Day, The Hacienda at The River hosted a joyful and unforgettable drag brunch filled with connection, creativity, and community spirit. Residents were treated to standout performances from Lucinda Holliday, Vera Del Mar, and Lady Ashley, who brought incredible talent to the stage while also sharing personal stories about their journeys in drag and meaningful connections to senior living.
One especially heartwarming moment reminded us how small the world can be, as one of our assisted living residents and Lady Ashley discovered a long-standing personal friendship.
We are grateful to Lucinda, Vera, and Lady Ashley for sharing their artistry and helping create such a meaningful experience for our community.
We are also proud to highlight our partnership with SAGE, the nation’s oldest and largest nonprofit dedicated to improving the lives of LGBTQ+ older adults and their caregivers.
