‘Under a Tree’ turns 1 year old today! Give it a spin and a save on all of your favorite streaming platforms. This song was born in a cosmic ether of puppets, meditations on what A.I. means in the creative process, and good old fashioned music-making with friends. You can read the backstory about how the song came to be on the Pineross Bandcamp page. Thanks for listening, it means more than you might think!

Turtles, by Beetlecrabs 01/04/2025

Excited to share my first music release of 2025 on this Bandcamp compilation from the Beetlecrab.audio community! Big thanks to the awesome group of producers that put the album together. The song Dawn I-III (track 3 on the album) was created out of a community improvisation at the gallery opening for Catalyst Creative Collective Artist-in-Residence Ibrahim Khazzaka's exhibition The Veils of Dawn. I attached contact microphones to the artists' ceramics and guests could "play" the pieces, which amplified the sound of the textures and triggered random arpeggios. If you listen closely you can hear the voices of people talking and laughing, which was picked up through the contact microphones, as well as the mandolin that I would occasionally play during the reception.

Ibrahim's gorgeous exhibition (still on display through the end of the month!) explores the concept of "comfort", and I wanted to source the sounds from musical instruments that we found most comforting. Ibrahim said that his was the Arabic ney, and I chose the clawhammer banjo and harmonium. The samples were loaded into a Beetlecrab Tempera granular synthesizer and I created meandering drones and scattering sound waves. The entire composition is a meditation on the dawn sunrise.

All proceeds from the Turtle compilation will benefit CEDO Intercultural 's efforts to protect sea turtles. Enjoy!

Exhibition: The Veils of Dawn | Ibrahim Khazzaka 12/18/2024

I am very fortunate to get to know many amazing artists through my work at Catalyst Creative Collective. Ibrahim Khazzaka is one of them! His Artist Residency culminates with a gallery opening reception for The Veils of Dawn on Thursday, December 19 from 4-7pm. I’ll be performing improvised music around the concept of ‘comfort’, which has been central to the beautiful ceramics that he has been creating these last few months. Hope to see you there!
4pm mingle.
5pm music.
6pm artist presentation.

Exhibition: The Veils of Dawn | Ibrahim Khazzaka Experience The Veils of Dawn, Ibrahim Khazzaka’s end of residency ceramic exhibition with SAACA. Inspired by Southwest sunsets and sunrises, these works explore the balance between discomfort and belonging through vibrant colors and delicate forms.

Thursday, November 14 at Wave Archive! I'll be opening up for my good friends the Hatpin Duo and debuting a new multi-media composition based on field recordings from a trip that I took to Vietnam in 2017. I had originally written this years ago and was going to perform it at Mutiny Cafe in Denver, but a snowstorm shut down I-70 and I wasn't able to make the concert. Listening back through these recordings has been a time warp and brought back a lot of great memories of the people that I met and the music that we shared - listening to chầu văn singing on a junk boat, learning the basics of the đàn bầu (a one stringed diddly bow) in a backyard home cafe, accidentally stumbling upon a country funeral with a frenzied brass/drum band playing for hours, jamming with a lighthouse keeper, and playing an open mic with a guitar virtuoso at his bar in Hội An (his son was named Fender). The composition weaves these recordings into a sonic journey accompanied by some photos and video taken on the trip. Hatpin Duo will be debuting a new music video and performing a live set. For those not in Tucson, I hope to release this recording in the coming months, along with some other electronic tracks!
