Summit Funding Tucson has a history highlight for you: Saguaro National Park.
In 1920 members of the Natural History Society of the University of Arizona, set out to protect a stand of saguaro cacti. University of Arizona President and plant scientist Homer L. Shantz, envisioned a boundless outdoor laboratory-one that encompassed all the desert has to offer-from the throngs of pine covered mountains to the stunning desert vastly covered with cacti. Academic dreams vs the realty land us on what we know today as Saguaro National Park.
In 1933 President Hoover used the end of his presidency and the Antiquities Act to establish the park, originally located in the Rincon Mountains. Within two months, and President Franklin Roosevelts term Saguaro National Park as well as sixteen other monuments were transferred into the care of the National Parks Service.
By 1950 a visitor center was added. By 1961 President Kennedy added the Tucson Mountain Range to the park, 25 miles of mountains were added. By 1994 Congress elected to ensure that the park be recognized and titled as a National Park.
Be sure to check out the beautiful Saguaro National Park, and take in the gorgeous desert and all its wonderful wildlife.
