Congratulations to our 2025 Distinguished Employee, Suzanne Ryan! ✨

Meet Suzanne, Proposal Manager. Suzanne prepares RFI and RFP responses for Universal Avionics. She has also taken on a wide range of responsibilities during her time here.

Q: What makes you proud to work at Universal?

"I'm truly proud to work alongside a team of this caliber. I'm continually impressed by their depth of expertise, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to quality output. They inspire me every day."

Q: What got you into the aerospace industry?

"In 2018, when I moved back from the Netherlands, I had to rebuild a life here and decide whether I wanted to open a new location of the restaurant I had owned in the Netherlands here, or go back to the type of work I did before I moved abroad. I decided to return to the type of work I did previously, and I found a position available at Universal Avionics. Thankfully, I was the candidate they selected. To this day, I'm still grateful they selected me. I have always been fascinated by the aerospace industry, including space exploration, so I was very excited to join UA and have the opportunity to work with a company that is making such an important impact in flight safety."

Q: What are your hobbies outside of work?

"I am passionate about supporting our country's military and veterans and have been very active in volunteering on behalf of our older veterans. I have taken several WWII veterans to Europe to retrace the paths they fought along during WWII, as well as led several tours for my fellow members of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). I also edited 5 pictorial histories about American Paratroopers and Glider Infantry in the ETO of WWII, and I produced & directed two documentaries."

Meet Tim Schreiber, Lead Facilities Technician, celebrating 27 years working at Universal Avionics! Tim maintains our building infrastructure, ensuring everything runs efficiently and supporting new office developments.

Q: What makes you proud to work at Universal?

"I'm very proud of all the work, you know, collectively that I've put into this place. I believe in this company, and I believe in the products we make. I've always liked the culture, and more than anything else, the people we work with - amazing fellow employees."

Q: What got you into the aerospace industry?

"Honestly, it was because I had surface mount experience, and I had previously worked with the supervisor of the board line at the time. He called me up and said, “Hey, I know you have experience. Would you like to come work on a surface mount line again?” That sounded good at the time, so I accepted, and I've enjoyed it ever since."

Q: Favorite project you've had the opportunity to work on?

"There's been a bunch of projects. It's always fun to change the light bulb on the tower. A couple of times, I wound up as a helper at NBAA-BACE. I helped build the booth and run a light rig for the in-house band at the hospitality event – that was fun. Going to the show and seeing the marketing side of it was pretty cool. A lot of the building renovation projects have been fun, such as the new AI Labs room, which was a lot of work but rewarding."

It was a great honor to support The University of Arizona students and the next generation of engineers and aviation professionals!

We sponsored a Senior Engineering Design team on their relevant project for Generative ATC/Pilot Conversations to help our AI Labs team with our Taxi Assist solution in the efforts to enhance safety and efficiency during aircraft ground operations.

The team was awarded "Best Use of Embedded Intelligence," sponsored by the Bill and Dianne Mensch Foundation. Congratulations to the team, and thank you for your hard work, dedication, and support!

"The most interesting component ... taking something that's from a raw idea and asking, 'Okay, how do we go about this and implement it?' There is not a set-in-stone template. We have some concepts but... getting with other members of the team working out, 'How do we go on the journey to figure out those factors?'" - Jason White, University of Arizona Student, Design Team Documentation Lead
