Feliz día de acción de gracias! I’m grateful for the magnificent Saguaro National Park. Friends from out of town and I enjoyed a beautiful hike this morning on the Thunderbird trail as I continue making my way around the conservation parks, monuments, refuges, preserves in District 3 and appreciating the importance of protecting our Sonoran desert.

Congratulations to Roxy Valenzuela for being named the new mayor of South Tucson. And congratulations to all the new members of the South Tucson city Council.

We wanted to take a moment to express our immense gratitude to everyone who volunteered with the campaign this last year. We’re proud of what we’ve done together so far and look forward to all we will accomplish moving forward!

Between now and when I assume office in January, I’m aiming to make my way around to all the protected lands (conservation parks, monuments, refuges, preserves, etc) to continue deepening my understanding of the peoples and lands across Pima County District 3.I’ve got a list of 13 places but let me know if it sounds like I’m short! Two days ago I walked the Tortolita Preserve loop trail and today I’m in Tucson Mtn Park on the Brown Mtn loop trail. I’ll keep checking in and feel free to let me know any favorite trails (FWIW I lean towards “moderate” trails, 4-8 miles long).

We had some great chili today at the 14th annual Amado Chili Cook-Off, a benefit for the Amado Youth Center. Tip for next year: get there early! By noon, most of the chili was long gone.

Gutted to hear about the tragic death of John McLean. Such a kind and joyous man. Here’s a photo from the Jane Fonda event we did together in October, captured by campaign volunteer Adriane Ackerman. John was a delight to encounter on the campaign trail, and will be sorely missed.

On Tuesday, Jen Allen (Jen for Supervisor), a longtime community leader on climate, immigration, democracy, and more, was elected to the Pima County, AZ Board of Supervisors! 🥳

Pima County has a population of over 1 million and an annual budget of over $1.7 billion. We're excited to support Jen in advancing climate action at scale.

I am profoundly honored to be able to call myself the next District 3 Supervisor on the Pima County Board of Supervisors. I am grateful for the support of my family, our volunteers across the District, everyone who contributed, the candidates we teamed up with, the labor unions, organizations, and leaders who endorsed and championed us, my future colleagues on the Board of Supervisors, and my committee and team who went above and beyond, over and over again.
Over the course of the last year, we knocked on nearly 17,000 doors, attended community events, district council meetings spanning our diverse district from Ajo to Amado, Marana to Three Points, Sells to Flowing Wells to midtown Tucson. We listened to people's concerns, priorities, and expectations from elected representatives. We heard loud and clear that people want policies that show compassion for our most vulnerable communities, that give us freedom to make decisions about our bodies and our futures, that stand up to the fossil fuel industry and corporate greed that puts profits over the protection of our desert, our water, and our planet that generations to come will rely on.
I am so thankful for the voters in District 3 who put their trust in me and gave us this opportunity. Tonight we celebrate but I am most excited about getting to work!
