Are you aware of major changes coming to the air conditioning industry in January 2025 that may affect you? especially if youâre planning on replacing an old AC unit in the next few years.
Whatâs Changing?
As you may know, air conditioners use REFRIGERANT - commonly referred to as âfreonâ - to cool the air in
your home. AC systems currently run on refrigerants known as 410A, or the older R22.
With new rules from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) coming into effect in 2025, AC systems
manufactured after December 31st 2024 will no longer be allowed to use these older types of refrigerant.
Systems built from 2025 onwards must use refrigerants with lower Global Warming Potential.
With this in mind, air conditioning manufacturers like Trane, Rheem, Lennox and Goodman have already
retooled their factories.
Whatever your opinion on the EPA, these changes ARE coming and will likely increase production costs of
air conditioners by at least 20%, while introducing new refrigerants that are mildly flammable, and
potentially causing a shortage of spare parts.
Of course, these added costs and complications will be passed onto you, the consumer.
Thatâs why we are recommending that owners of older AC systems consider avoiding these costs
and inconveniences by being proactive and upgrading now, instead of waiting.
Don't stress out. You can still get ahead of this all. Give me a call for a free estimate on upgrading your current system. 520.496.0585
