During these complicated times, don’t let your pet become a couch potato and gain their “quarantine 15.” Read on to discover four benefits of exercising your pets daily.

1. Keep the Weight Off and Stay Regular

An estimated 60% of cats and 56% of dogs in the US, are overweight or obese.

Taking pets outside for regular exercise keeps their heart strong, muscles stretched and limber, and fights off those extra pounds. Plus, regular exercise helps your fur baby’s digestive system, keeping them regular, and avoiding constipation.

2. Channel that Energy and Curiosity

We’ve all come home from a long day at work, to find that our furry roommate ruined our favorite pair of house shoes. Most behavior issues are caused by a very simple issue; boredom.

Regular exercise has been shown to reduce or eliminate unwanted behaviors, such as chewing, digging, or scratching. Regular outdoor exercise mentally stimulates your pet, feeding their curiosity and wonderment of their surroundings. With all this exercise, they’ll spend more time napping in the house, rather than trying to chew through it!

3. Building the Bonds of Trust

Your pet is eager to show their loyalty and devotion to you, jumping at the chance to be your protector when you venture out into nature.

Daily exercise with your pooch helps establish and strengthen your bond, creating a unique trust that makes Milo more than willing to jump in front of you, to ward off potential danger. But trust is a two-way street; walking with your pet helps build their confidence in daily life and with other animals, overcoming timidness, and aggression.

4. Your Health is Important Too!

As we all transition to more time at home, staying active becomes a conscious choice. Daily exercise with your pet allows you to get your heart rate up, stretch your muscles after a long day sitting in front of the laptop, and makes sure you get a daily dose of Vitamin D.

Your pet lives to be by your side, proving themselves daily, as your faithful companion. Do right by them; get your hound outside for daily exercise and they will have your back for years to come.
