Bellis Trio

Sasha Romero is the first transgender woman to hold a position in a major orchestra. She was appointed principal trombone of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra in 2018. In addition to a lengthy list of national and international solo and chamber music competition wins to her name, Sasha is honored to have been a semi-finalist in the first Brass Division of the 2019 XVI International Tchaikovsky Competition in St. Petersburg, Russia.

This month we are featuring horn player Sarah Willis.

In 2001 Sarah Willis became the first female brass member of the Berlin Philharmonic. Sarah is passionate about music education and the way digital technology and social media can be used to reach audiences worldwide. Her contributions to classical music were recognized by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in the Queen’s 2021 Birthday Honours List where she was recognized as a Member of the Order of the British Empire.

Congratulations to Bellis Trio's trumpet player Morgana Ortiz for winning the 3rd Trumpet position with the Tucson Symphony Orchestra! She will begin playing with the symphony this fall for their 2022-2023 season.

As you may know, reading music takes a lot of printed paper. According to the EPA, paper waste accounts for more than 23% of total waste in a year which equates to roughly 1 billion trees thrown away in the US alone. The Bellis Trio is doing our best to reduce the amount of paper waste we create by reading scores digitally, using recycled printer paper, and only printing music we plan on performing. If everyone makes small improvements in their use of paper, maybe next year we can see a reduced percentage and save more trees! Happy Earth Day from your favorite tree hugging trio!
