The University of Arizona
The Abu Dhabi Department of Energy, the University of Arizona, and SolarSpace signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) at COP28 to collaborate on Space-Based Solar Power technology development that will enable a sustainable and efficient energy source, with a focus on its potential application in the UAE and the broader Middle East region.
The concept is to place solar power generation facilities in orbit around the Earth where sunlight is continuous, and then transmit the collected energy back to the surface.
This unique government, academia, and private sector collaboration will allow for the rapid development of cutting-edge renewable energy technologies by leveraging the strengths of each partner. The collaboration fosters technological innovation, positioning SolarSpace, the University of Arizona and the UAE as a leader in space-based energy technology.
