Earlier today, the Pima County Board certified our election results and I wanted to say thank you.

Because of our dedicated volunteers' time spent collecting signatures, canvassing, phone banking, texting and organizing house parties as well as our donors' generous support, we prevailed on November 8th in our race for State Representative in the new LD-18! I'll have the distinct privilege of continuing to represent this district I'm so proud to call home.

I’m also very pleased to congratulate my new seatmate, Representative-Elect Nancy Gutierrez. She'll be an excellent addition to our Democratic caucus in Phoenix. And with Governor-Elect Katie Hobbs, we'll be in a much stronger position to advance our legislative agenda and work together with our LD-18 colleague, Senator-Elect Priya Sundareshan, and members on both sides of the aisle to tackle tough issues.

Together, we'll keep fighting for the things that matter most to Tucson and Southern Arizona, like fully funding our public schools, restoring reproductive rights, preserving our precious water resources, protecting our voting rights and passing common-sense gun safety legislation.

The power to change Arizona for the better starts with voters, volunteers and supporters who care deeply about the issues facing our state and our communities.

Thank you so much for all of your help and support and for the opportunity to continue to serve.

While we're still waiting on the final results to come in for the Arizona primary, our campaign is more than likely to remain in a top two position - this means we will be advancing to the general election this November! I want to congratulate Nancy for AZ, who will also be advancing to the general election. I look forward to working closely with her and our AZ State Senate nominee, Priya Sundareshan for AZ Senate - LD18, to fight for priorities Tucsonans care about most. I also want to thank our extraordinary LD-18 candidates, Kat Stratford, Nathan Davis and Charlie Verdin, for running strong, substantive and positive races. I've gotten to know them all over the past year and Southern Arizona would be very well served by any one of them. Thank you to everyone who canvasssed, called, donated and voted! It's because of people like you that our grassroots primary campaign was successful and I couldn't be more grateful for your support. Now, onward to November!

We just produced a new campaign ad highlighting some of the endorsements I’ve received from teachers, nurses and doctors, the Sierra Club and Arizona’s largest labor union, UFCW 99.

It’s such an honor to have earned support from this broad coalition of organizations. I look forward to continuing to work with them all and others in the Arizona State Legislature to tackle the issues Southern Arizonans care about most.

I’m excited to share that I’ve received endorsements from both the Arizona Academy of Family Physicians and the Arizona Nurses Association!

I’ve focused on health care issues and health care system improvement throughout my legal, legislative and academic work, so earning the support of these important groups means a great deal.

I look forward to continuing to work with the Arizona Nurses Association and the Arizona Academy of Family Physicians to make sure our front-line medical professionals have the backing they need and that every Arizonan has access to high-quality, affordable health care.

I’m honored to be endorsed by the former Mayor of Tucson, Jonathan Rothschild. Here’s what he has to say about me and my campaign for the Arizona State House:

“As the former Mayor of Tucson, I understand what qualities and skills are needed to be an effective leader for this community. And I know Chris Mathis has what it takes to be that kind of leader.

Since being appointed to the Legislature last year, Chris has made it clear that he’s willing to tackle some of the biggest issues Arizona faces today, like preserving our precious water resources, fully funding our public schools, protecting women’s reproductive rights, defending all of our voting rights and passing common-sense gun safety laws.

His principled, pragmatic and thoughtful approach to governing is exactly what we need. I’m confident that, with Chris’ ongoing leadership in the State House, Tucson will continue to thrive and become an even better place to live and work.”

As Arizonans, we know firsthand the effects of a changing climate. The need to protect and preserve our state's precious water resources, wild places and wildlife couldn’t be more urgent. That's why I’m thrilled to announce that I’ve just been endorsed by the Sierra Club!

The Sierra Club's outstanding commitment to protecting our environment is unmatched. Their advocacy has helped to protect our natural resources, public lands, wildlife and the communities who depend on them.

It's vitally important for us to promote water conservation, renewable energy, energy efficiency and smart transportation in order to reduce our environmental impact and safeguard our state's future.

I know the Sierra Club is dedicated to tackling these challenging issues and I look forward to continuing to work with them as a member of the Natural Resources, Energy and Water (NREW) Committee in the State Legislature to ensure Arizonans see and feel the progress of our climate resiliency efforts.
