Forgot to post, but 4.5 years without a drink. Wild! I don’t miss it. I’m still weird as hell without it 😂
As always, if you’re sober curious, struggling with alcohol, or just want to chat…I’m all ears. I’m not here to judge you…for that — but pizza toppings and ice cream flavors are not judgement free zones 😂 🕺🏿
Anyway, here are a couple photos from the 10k at in France last weekend. It was super fun to run something “short” and be done before lunch.
Okay, I guess this is where I put the little peace sign, just like I seem to do in all my race photos ✌🏿 😂

Reno Tahoe weekend is just coming up quick — there’s still time to sign up. Marathon, Half Marathon, and 10km. Come get that Boston qualifier!
Later this week I’ll post my favorite sights to see and things to eat as you’re recovering from your big adventure. 🏃🏿♂️

100. Another DNF. I’m not shocked, just frustrated. I love being outside and moving through nature. For the past couple years, I’ve been dealing with various degrees of sciatica flare ups from, “ehhh, this is fine,” and able to finish multiple 200+ mile races, to dropping out of an 8k road race 🤷🏿♂️ I seem to be able to manage it for the daily ~1 hour runs, but really can’t do the things I love. And that’s okay. I am realizing that start lines are cool, but I’m really in it for the experience and adventure. In the quest for different qualifiers (States, Hardrock, etc) and checking boxes, it can be so hard to know when it’s time to take a step back, or keep pushing.
I have been competing in sports for almost 30 years, (and believe there are still good years ahead), sometimes that means taking a step back. What does that look like? I’m not quite sure. There are a few races this year that are super exciting (to me), and then 🤷🏿♂️
Thank you to the sponsors ( / ) that are super patient with me, as I try to figure this all out. I just want to be healthy enough to go on big adventures again 🕺🏿

I don’t get nervous to race anymore, and honestly a lot of it feels like just going through the motions. Enter After multiple cancelled flights, I’ve made it to Norway to attempt to finish a 100 mile race: no crew, no pacers, a new (to me) country, and the weather looks “fun.” I have had a rough couple years of lingering injuries, but I am feeling good enough to start, and excited for the challenge 💪🏿 I have always enjoyed longer races, because it’s a lot of problem solving on the go, and a finish is never guaranteed. On a race like this, you have to want it, because you could potentially be out there for 2 sunsets and 2 sunrises, but you’re never that far away from a warm, dry hotel room 😅 8:00am Friday is just one sleep away 🕺🏿

The AQI was kind of bad the last couple days, but hey, the desert is blooming 🌵🌺 We had a bit of rain last night, and back to sunny, blue sky today. I’m going to enjoy the warmth, because my next race is looking…cold 😅
Stay tuned 🏃🏿♂️

I mean, if you’re going to DNF, Big Alta is a beautiful place to do it. I was actually enjoying the 50k, but had a nice sciatica flare up…on a freakin’ uphill (that’s new for me). I have been dealing with this for 2+ years, mainly on speed and downhills, but I have been really good at keeping it mostly under control. There are some days this all feels super defeating, but I also for the most part, I feel that good days are still coming. We’ll get there!🕺🏿
Everybody: Put Big Alta on your calendar for next year! puts on top notch events, and the trails are stunning.

I spent birthday # 36 on the coast of Oregon & Washington…it was filled with rain and fog, but delivered a clear shot of this eagle. I had just flown back from Australia and straight into a Merrell shoot, so it was actually nice to do some short photo hikes, and relax with all the coffee and pastries. 🕺🏿

Gone Nuts 50k was…nuts. A perfect mix of runable path, goat track, single track, and views for days. I have been lucky enough to race in some pretty incredible places, and this one ranks high on the list. It was a bit of a rough day, but honestly that’s where my current fitness is, and a bit of old man strength got me to the finish line. Racing on this side of the world is always an adventure, and I’m thankful I got to experience this. The icing on the cake was the great coffee at the finish ☕️

Here I go — 50k in the morning. Looking forward to the tour of Rocky Cape National Park and tour of the coast. I ran part off the course yesterday, and we drove a few parts today: it’s beautiful. Happy I took some photos today, so I don’t take •as many• on race day! 🕺🏿

I guess I am running in the morning 🕺🏿
I don’t get nervous for these things, I’m just here to begin the build to Western States. The best part is: good day, bad day… I’m still done before lunch 🥙 I hope everyone has a great race tomorrow and good luck to everyone running Black Canyon 100k/50k this weekend!
