🧩 Puzzle Swap: June 22–26 🧩

Tables of puzzles will be set up in the lobby during business hours all week long. Bring puzzles you no longer need and swap them for something new. Take one, leave one. Take five, leave five. Take ten, leave ten—the choice is yours!

It's a great way to refresh your puzzle collection, try something different, and pass along puzzles for others to enjoy.

📅 July program registration opens Sunday, June 21 at 8:00 AM!

⭐ Registration is required for any program with a STAR beside it on the calendar. Programs without a star do not require registration.

A few important reminders:

✅ This form must be completed separately for each person in a group or family. Please do not put multiple people on one form as registrations with multiple people listed will be considered invalid.

✅ If a program requiring registration is not listed on the form, it has already reached capacity. To be added to the waitlist, call the library at 636-462-4874 during business hours or email [email protected].

Summer fun at the library! ☀️📖

Yesterday's Scales & Tails program with the Missouri Department of Conservation was a great time!

Children learned about the characteristics of amphibians and reptiles, discovered what makes these animals unique, and got an up-close look at some incredible creatures. The stars of the show were Olive the snake, Stinky the turtle, and Hopsicle the toad, who helped bring the lesson to life.

Thank you to Lauren at the Missouri Department of Conservation for an engaging program that inspired curiosity about the natural world!

Good news, Tonie fans. Our Tonie collection has grown!

Thanks to funding from a previous grant from Cuivre River Electric and a donation from Tonies on Foot, Powell Memorial Library now has approximately 200 Tonies available for checkout!

Whether your child loves book characters, music, cartoon characters, chapter books, or nonfiction, there's something for everyone. We're especially excited about our new collection of Chapter Book Tonies, which allow children to enjoy longer stories independently while building listening comprehension and a love of reading.

Not familiar with Tonies? A Toniebox is a screen-free audio player designed just for kids. Simply place a Tonie character on top of the box and enjoy stories, songs, and educational content.

📚 New Collection Alert! 📚

We're excited to announce a new addition to Powell Memorial Library's collection—Decodable Books for Kindergarten through 2nd Grade readers!

These books were purchased thanks to a generous grant from the Lincoln County R-III Education Foundation.

Decodable books are specially designed for beginning readers. They contain words that follow the phonics skills children are learning, allowing children to practice sounding out words independently rather than relying on pictures or guessing. This helps build confidence, strengthens decoding skills, and supports long-term reading success.

These books also have support for parents and caregivers! Inside the covers, you'll find helpful tips and activities to make reading together even more meaningful, including:
✅ Fluency practice ideas
✅ Comprehension questions
✅ Vocabulary support
✅ Ways to reinforce phonics skills at home

These books are a wonderful tool for building strong reading foundations. Stop by the library and check out our new decodable collection today!
