"Why does everyone keep mumbling?"
If you've caught yourself thinking that lately... they're probably not.
One of the earliest signs of hearing loss isn't silence. It's muffled conversation. It's asking people to repeat themselves. It's turning up the TV just a little more than you used to.
The good news? A simple hearing consultation can tell you exactly what's going on and what to do about it.

As summer begins, routines shift, and listening environments change. Outdoor gatherings, busy restaurants, family events… and more background noise. ☀️
Even the best hearing aids have limitations and are designed to aid hearing, not replace it entirely.
The good news is that hearing aid technology continues to improve, especially for speech in noise.
If your hearing aids are five years or older, newer technology may offer better clarity in the situations that challenge you most. 🦻
Summer conversations should feel easier.
Father’s Day is a time to celebrate the dads and father figures who show up, support, and lead in their own way. From everyday conversations to life’s biggest moments, their presence makes a lasting impact.

Hi, I’m Dr. Maxwell 👋
The summer version of me right here in Michigan has me looking like:
☀️ Playing Euchre while sitting lakeside at sunset
🍓 Caprese Salad; Water filled to the brim with crushed ice and a lemon or an Arnold Palmer (has to be 75% iced tea / 25% lemonade) if I'm feeling adventurous.
👟 Pickleball
🌅 Early morning when the air is crisp, before the heat sets in
Because the moments people talk about missing? They’re usually the same kinds of little moments I love most!
One of my favorite parts of my job is helping people feel more present in those moments again.
Do you play Pickleball? I am new to it, and I am having a great time learning.

Do you know someone who is showing signs of cognitive decline? 😔
Untreated hearing loss can make dementia symptoms more challenging, increasing confusion, disorientation, and safety risks. For individuals already living with cognitive decline, hearing difficulties can further limit communication and connection.
Treating hearing loss may help reduce some of these challenges. While hearing aids are not always the right solution for every patient, evaluating hearing allows us to explore the best options for each individual.
Personalized care matters. Let us know if you or a family member is navigating this uncertainty. We are here to help! 🫶💓

One of the most frequent questions I get asked is: 'Do I have to take my hearing aids out for the TSA scanner?' 🤔
The short answer? Nope! You generally do not need to remove your hearing aids to go through security.
However, some of our patients prefer to head through security with their “ears” off. If you have mild hearing loss and feel more comfortable removing your devices for the scanners, just make sure your storage case is handy in your carry-on. Keeping them tucked away in their proper home ensures they stay safe and sound while you navigate the terminal!

If your hearing aids are making unusual noises, working intermittently, or experiencing battery performance issues, it may be time to have us look them over! Some issues can be resolved easily in the office, while others may require us to send them in to the manufacturer.
Hearing aids typically last 4–5 years. As technology advances, newer options may provide better clarity and reliability. Our goal is to help you weigh your options and find the best solution for your needs.

Did you know your hearing can change gradually over time, without you even noticing?
That's why a yearly hearing check-up matters. A baseline hearing test gives us a snapshot of where your hearing is today, so we can track any changes over time and act before they affect your daily life.
Think of it like an annual physical, but for your ears.
📅 Schedule your hearing check-up today and take the first step toward protecting your hearing for years to come.
A patient told me something that really clicked. He said, “My hearing aids were acting up, and I didn’t have time to bring them in right away. I went without them for 3 days. I can’t believe how exhausted I was at the end of each day!”
👆 This is a perfect example of what happens when your brain has to work overtime to fill in the gaps of speech.
When you are missing pieces of sound, your brain tries to “auto-correct” everything. That extra effort adds up quickly, even if you do not realize it is happening. 😟
Once his hearing aids were repaired (which we did right here in the office!), he noticed he actually has energy left at the end of the day now!
Those kinds of wins go beyond just hearing better. They impact how you feel day to day. 💗
If you find yourself feeling unusually drained after conversations or meetings, it might not just be a long day. It could be your brain working harder than it needs to, and we can help with that.
