Read 1 Peter Chapter 2 and answer the following questions. We will discuss them in Small Groups Wednesday night.

*Read 1 Peter Chapter 2:1-3 and answer the following questions:
-What are the things that Peter says we need to “rid ourselves of”?
-What do these things mean? (malice, deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander)
-What is Peter trying to say to us in verse 2 when he says that we should “crave pure spiritual milk?
-What does it mean to “grow up in your salvation”?

*Read 1 Peter Chapter 2:4-8 and answer the following questions:
-According to these verses, what are we being built into?
-Who is the “Living Stone” and/or “Cornerstone” that these verses are talking about?
-Who were the builders, how did they reject Jesus, and how did He still become corner- stone?
-In what sense is this cornerstone also a stumbling block? (Think: Is it always wrong to be a stumbling block? )

*Read 1 Peter Chapter 2:9-10 and answer the following questions:
-What do these verses say about who we are as believers in Jesus?
-What does it mean in verse 9 when it talks about being “called out of darkness into light”?
-What do you think Peter is trying to communicate by using the words “Once you were not, but now you are”?

*Read 1 Peter Chapter 2:11-12 and answer the following questions:
-Why do you think Peter refer to us as “strangers and aliens”?
-What does it mean to “abstain”?
-What are “sinful desires”?
-How do sinful desires “war against your soul”?
-How are we supposed to live our lives in front of people who don’t believe in God?

*Read 1 Peter Chapter 2:13-17 and answer the following questions:
-What does it mean to submit?
-Why is submitting to the authorities in our lives a spiritual issue?

*Read 1 Peter Chapter 2:18-22 and answer the following questions:
(Note: These verses are not an endorsement for slavery. Peter was simply speaking into the reality that some of the new believers that he was writing to were slaves.)
-What is Peter’s main advice to people who were slaves?
-What did Peter say about how Jesus could relate to the suffering that the slaves were going through?

*Read 1 Peter Chapter 2:23-25 and answer the following questions:
-How did Jesus respond to insults and suffering?
-How was Jesus able to do this?
-What can we learn from Jesus’ example in this area?
-What does it mean when it says that Jesus “bore our sins”?
-Why do these verses say that Jesus took the payment for our sins?
-What does verse 25 mean when it says that we are like sheep that have gone astray?
-What does verse 25 mean when it says that those of us that have put our faith in Jesus have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of our souls?
