Justin Van Rheenen for TCAPS
Why willingly choose to serve as a TCAPS Board Trustee? A love for my daughter and my community. Public education is one of the cornerstones to a community.
It is the largest educator, many times the largest employer, and the greatest unifier in a community. A community can revolve around the success of a school district or be destroyed by its shortcomings. I want to be a support for our teachers, a champion of our kids, and bridge builder between our community and the district.
Tonight is the next board meeting. Starts at 6 PM on the second floor of the administration building on Boardman Avenue. Click the link below for further details.

The Traverse City Area Public Schools (TCAPS) All City Choir is touring the town today and made a stop at Grand Traverse Mall to eat lunch and perform. This dad’s heart is melting. 🥲❤️ Thank you Mr. Dee (Traverse City West Middle School - TCAPS)and Mr. Schafer (Traverse City East Middle School - TCAPS) for your hard work! They sound amazing!

It’s Election Eve! Tomorrow is where your voice gets to be added to the democracy experiment we have in the United States of America. I believe I would be an excellent Traverse City Area Public Schools (TCAPS) School Board member! I do hope you vote for me. 😁
Here are a few things to consider if tomorrow is when you are voting:
1️⃣ Each school board candidate is a great human being. From what I have seen at this time, whoever is elected will do a great job.
2️⃣ Each candidate does have their own lanes politically. However, a school board member should be apolitical and able to discuss all sides of a decision. I have seen the majority be able to do that. There are political party groups who are endorsing particular candidates but you’ll see that none have endorsed me. Not because I’m not qualified but because I am a middle-of-the-road candidate who has supporters on all sides of the political spectrum.
3️⃣ I have ONE agenda item: to do what’s best for ALL STUDENTS in TCAPS. Everything stems from there! My 3 year track record in my interactions with the board, the administration, and my public education advocacy in our community says that loud and clear. Ask one of them. They can’t deny it.
4️⃣ Vote411.org is an excellent resource to get a balanced perspective of each candidate. Type in your address and the site will give you your ballot. Scroll to the school board section and then tap/click on the candidates name. All of us were asked the same questions and our answers are there.
No matter how tomorrow turns out, I’m not done. Good luck in your vote!
