Hard to believe our fourth consecutive year of daily February tunes has come and gone! This year was special playing all these fun Irish tunes, and I hope you enjoyed it too! And it's not too late to join the fun--the transcriptions and play along tracks for all 28 tunes as well as the past 3 years of Fiddle Tune February resources are available to all paid tiers over on my Patreon page--happy picking! ☘️☘️☘️https://www.patreon.com/davidbenedictmandolin
We did it! 🎉 🎉 🎉 Another Fiddle Tune February for the books! Here's "The Mason's Apron" for our last mega tune. I wanted to use this multipart reel as a stretch goal for myself this year, trying to get those crazy Irish triplets up to speed--and I'm realizing that I lose control of my lips when I play this one, haha! This version is heavily inspired by the fiddle playing of John Sheahan from The Dubliners, but adapted for mandolin. Check out the transcription over on my Patreon page here: https://www.patreon.com/davidbenedictmandolin
For our penultimate Irish tune this month, here's another beautiful tune from harpist Turlough O'Carolan--a beautiful waltz called "Eleanor Plunkett." Grab the PDF tab here: https://www.patreon.com/davidbenedictmandolin
There are multiple Irish tunes with this same name, but man, this particular version of "The Rolling Waves" slaps! Love how the A section starts on the 5 chords--it feels like it just wants to keep going on forever. PDFs and recordings up on my Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/davidbenedictmandolin
Here's another tricky Irish slip jig for you! "The Foxhunter" PDFs and recordings are up on my Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/davidbenedictmandolin
Hard to keep all these tunes straight, haha! "The Silver Spire" is a very similar but different D major Irish reel than "The Silver Spear" we looked at earlier this month. Which is your favorite of the two? As always you can grab the tab and recordings here: https://www.patreon.com/davidbenedictmandolin
