Yellow-crowned night heron, seen here near the Royal Farm store, at W. Joppa & Thornton Rds. This is one reason why our volunteers were picking up trash today in that area! Did you know... yellow-crowned night herons mainly eat crustaceans?(crabs and crayfish).
Upcoming Second Saturday cleanup info is in E-News, sent to member, and is also on our homepage - top right corner. Join in with neighbors next month on July 11 - the next Second Saturday.

What is DRP? Design Review is a process that encourages a builder/developer to partner with our community, and allows community input into the County Design Review Panel’s review of the architectural design of a residential project in our Association’s geography. The Association’s role is to facilitate bringing the builder/developer and the neighbors adjacent to the proposed project together. The stated goal of the DRP is to “encourage design excellence through the application of design guidelines contained in the County Master Plan, the Comprehensive Manual of Development Policies, and adopted community plans, as applicable.” The DRP’s general charge is to assure the overall quality of a project, and to ensure that the architecture of any new significant addition or new house enhances the neighborhood.

We are in fawning season for the many deer in our community, and the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) wants to remind us all that if you come upon a baby deer, please leave it alone and make no attempt to "rescue" it. A mother deer leaves their fawns in places they feel may be safe and go off to forage for food for hours, but will always return later to the spot where they left their fawn. 'Rescuing' them is unnecessary, and can be dangerous for the fawn.

The Association organized a tour of the scenic overlook at the Martin Marietta Quarry in Cockeysville on Thursday, June 4. Tour guide Trevor Hedrick presented the fascinating history of the quarry and also explained how the materials are extracted from this active mining site. Beautiful weather and several bird sightings made for a perfect morning out.
