I went for a nice reflective drive today, just to admire the sights, bump beats, bask in the breezeโ€™nโ€™sun ... โ˜€๏ธ
Sitting here looking out across this vista I start thinking-
โ€œWoah, the odds are like finding a pine needle in a pile of leaves, that I can even be doing this right now. โ€œ
๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿ’ฅโœจ
This time last year I was learning to walk again a week after my 30th birthday!
What a wild & wondrous ride weโ€™re on!
AM ๐Ÿงฟ Ri!te ?!

One of my favorite moments ever in my professional career. Sorry I havenโ€™t shared any of the beautiful backstage work Iโ€™ve done in recent years.

had gotten the best of me for a long time.
Looking back on my memories I was up to some pretty amazing things & had nothing to be shy about!

As these memories come up, & after the year Iโ€™ve had... it feels like its time to start embracing & showcasing the passion I put into all I do. Huge thanks & for having me come out to one of my assist in this early production of circa 2018!

This was a formative experience that no doubt has contributed to the stylist & even more so the visionary that I am today.

I am so blessed with this life, full of opportunities & a beautifully supportive audience with which to share. ๐Ÿ’—

My for #2021 is to act like it. ๐ŸŒ…

Iโ€™ve been wrapping my head around how to come back to posting here since my car accident in December (which is easier than usual I guess, since my dome is so much more malleable now ๐Ÿ˜…) . Itโ€™s been tricky - what do I share? when? do I start brand new?!..
-
Iโ€™ve decided to just stick with the post I had lined up before my plans were interrupted by the accident & recovery, since itโ€™s the third in a series of photos of my youngest sisterโ€™s new hair & it was her birthday over the weekend! (sheโ€™s the 3rd; Iโ€™m the eldest). We did this look for her last birthday. She came in that day ready for a major change for her 15th. I did that once, too. She was born when I was 15 & was going through a similar shift.
-
Iโ€™ve been reminiscing on what my life was like at her age. I, too, craved to change radically. This was the dawn of a period of self-acceptance for me: the age when I accepted my curls. Earlier in my adolescence, I did everything I could to alter my appearance. I hated my wild hair, gapped teeth & insecurities surrounding my cultural identity.
-
At 15, the path toward becoming โ€œThe Curloristaโ€ began to open up for me. I discovered there were special techniques, products & stylists dedicated to curly hair. I already knew I wanted to be a stylist, but now my obsession shifted from stomping out natural beauty to meet some superficial standard of beauty, to truly embracing the features our ancestors gave us. My focus has evolved in this direction ever since.
-
After my recent accident, the comfort I had come to know with myself and my image was totally upended. I had figured how to love my curls, but could I handle waking up one day with no hair at all? The gaps were fine, but now these scars?! As I acclimate to my new set of challenges, Iโ€™m being harkened back to that time when I was an insecure teenager just learning how to live & love myself.
-
I thought I had made it over the hurdle of self-appreciation, but it was only an early jump in a long marathon. My recovery process has been a strong reminder that maintaining my relationship to self is an ongoing endeavor.
Gratitude to my sisters - the blood & ๐Ÿ’ง water 1s - for the endless inspiration! @ New Haven, Connecticut

I did my teenage sister's hair for her birthday and got a REAL smile! SWIPE all the way through to SEE her new 'do!
๐Ÿ˜ฏ
๐Ÿ˜„
She just turned 15. Recall that age.
๐Ÿค”
I was 15 when she was born. I remember having a huge realization then, about what it was really like to love and care for a tiny brand-new being, but I had no concept of how I'd relate to her with such an age difference. I thought we'd be less connected from growing up in different homes, in a totally different era.
โ€ข
From my current view I can say it's been amazing to watch her grow up. It feels great to be able to be a caring adult, capable of contributing to her life in ways that I couldn't if I were younger. We still have that super goofy sisterly bond (as displayed when we all get together around some cookies ๐Ÿ˜„) & SO many similarities.
โ€ข
Being the oldest seemed a chore to a teenage me, but I see what a gift I got now.
๐Ÿงน โญ ๐ŸŽ
The two young ladies that I get to share a name, traits & so much more with are no doubt my biggest inspirations. Every one of their achievements astonishes me & every goal they set, or trouble they turn to me with, challenges me to be a better sister, a better supporter & a better human. ๐Ÿ’—๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿฝ
& I love you to ALL the moons and back & I wish on every star that you reach your dreams. Lucky are we in the power of three!
